Hi,

I'm Dave, and am located in 'Constable Country', South Suffolk.

A keen amateur photographer and astro-imager (I run my own astro-imaging forum).

A 'life-long' Canon user, and currently using an EOS 7D.

I came across this forum while browsing photography forums, and liked what I saw, so duly 'signed up'.

Looking forward to getting to know folk here.

Regards to all

Dave

 Dave and welcome aboard !!!

Really great to have another astro-photographer here.
We have a few on the forum and I'm absolutely fascinated by the photos they produce so I can't wait to see some of your images.

We're a friendly bunch, so get yourself comfortable and make yourself at home :)

Hi Sarah, and thanks for the welcome.

Nice to be here.

While I would be quite happy to post some of my astro-images here, they wouldn't be representative of what can be achieved with a standard DSLR.

I don't use a DSLR, but use dedicated astro-imaging cameras, which are Peltier Cooled to around -30 degrees below ambient. This keeps thermal noise down to sensible levels, allowing for very long exposures.

They are all taken through telescopes, that are attached to a computer controlled mount, that accurately 'tracks' the night sky.

Therefore, I think it would be misleading to post these on a photography forum.

Don't know about everyone else here but myself wouldn't mind a look at the setup let alone the images produced :p :)

Welcome to TP! :)

Cheers for the link Dave :) Some serious kit there!! Wonder if the wife will notice if I start late night ebay sprees again...

Enjoy TP - Great forums, the mod team can get a bit funny if they haven't had a fix of Jaffa cakes for a while but apart from that its all good :)

Also must say - The images you have produced are fantastic, :)

Bry

Hello and welcome, not far away from you at all,we are out at Shotley, the images on your site site are fantastic

Thanks for your comments Andy and Bryan.

Andy, you are indeed not that far away from me. I'm not on the Peninsula, but not very far from it.

Dave

They are absolutely beautiful images - and you'd be more than welcome to post some on the forums if you wanted to :)

No discrimination here, photography of any kind is welcome - from Point & Shoots and phone cameras all the way up through DSLRs to more specialist kit.
I believe (and I'm far from any sort of expert on it) that our current astro-photographers are also using telescopes and tracking mounts but are stacking multiple long exposures from DSLRs to get the final image.
Have a search for threads started by Swag72 in the General Photo Feedback section if you'd like to see what others have posted (I don't think I've seen anything from the others in a little while)

Hi again Sarah

Thank you for the nice comment on my astro-images.

Sara (Swag72) is a valued member of my astro-imaging forum, and as such I'm very familiar with her excellent work.

Dave

Your website is a really interesting read Dave! You're probably not that far away from me - I'm just on the Essex side of the Essex/Suffolk border.

Hi Rob

The Suffolk/Essex border isn't far from me either, but this border follows the River Stour, which winds its way inland for many miles.

Being in Constable Country, I'm a good hours drive from Cambridge, which I believe is near you.

Glad you enjoyed my astro website.

Dave

Cool pics on the website. Thanks for sharing.
I work in Dedham so can't be far!

Indeed Zulfi, not very far at all.

I like the user name, a real bit of old Suffolk speak, is that

Not that I'm Suffolk born, but I escaped from London 28 years ago, so I now have my Suffolk passport.

Dave

By the way, Some of the Mods are nice, like Sarah, but some are not so, Watch out for Yv :puke:
