Hey guys, just having a bit of a snoop but I notice that some EXIF data is not there in some of the pics that people put on here.

Is it purposely hidden I wonder?

Nah not on purpose for the majority.

If you do 'save for web' in ps then the exif is stripped. Think it happens on Flickr too (although retained in the sidebar, so you would see it here).

Lots of programs do strip it on save or export, but I can't see many reasons why it would be done on purpose...

Ah, I see thanks for that. Purposely hidden was the only reason I could think of as to why it wasn't displayed

On Photoshop CS4 if you click on SAVE AS then jpg is not an option if you have layers so people select save for web which strips the EXIF. CS5 allows it but to do the same in CS4 you need to flatten the image first.

If it is'nt available, most posters are more than happy to tell you the information you're looking for :)

You sure Darren? It's an option on CS3. Are you thinking about the 8 bit/16 bit issue perhaps?

A lot of people use Save for Web to resize, not realising that it strips EXIF. Also, the flickr issue (as I recently found out) is that the EXIF is only within the image if the original size is selected so you won't see it if they have uploaded a full size image.
