Have you tried the inside macro achromatic Mike? They are pretty decent going by the few shots I have taken with them.

I’ve tried a Raynox and also a Marumi - is there another option? Cheers

I have some nisi close up achromats and I think they are probably the best you can get.

Does anybody know the maximum magnification ratio for the RX10iv? The best I could do at 600mm equiv was an image around 60mm across - dividing the 1 inch sensor width (13.2mm) by 60 gives 0.22 ? Does that sound right? Cheers

But then again.... this review here says '(The Sony RX10 IV has a manufacturer-rated 0.70x magnification, speaking in 35mm-equivalents.)' so is that adding in the 2.7x crop factor to the 0.22x that I got? According to my arithmetic 2.7 * 0.22 should be more like 0.59 so I am a bit mystified!

This is 'effective magnification' rather then 'optical magnification' I think...

Point of all this is the native lens should be able to get a pretty decent close-up - eg this one I got a few years back, which if you click through to Flickr and zoom in, I think holds up quite well?

Interesting, thanks Alby. The Nisi lenses certainly get you close but the dof goes wafer thin doesn't it (physics I guess so not much to be done about it)

yeah the closer you get the thinner the dof. Focus stacking is the answer Mike .

Hmm - tried that in the distant past and it needs a level of commitment beyond that which I possess .

I'm going to see what I can get with the naked lens and a crop... then probably go back to my dedicated macro setup

No - I have the OM1 + 60mm + 8-25mm. If Olympus had a 12-300 that could shoot macro I'd be all over it . It's more about trying to optimise the gear so I can get good results with the minimum amount of kit - an unsolveable conundrum but it's 'fun' trying
