High-end bridge cameras: Sony RX10iv, RX10v, Panasonic FZ1000 etc

An afternoon out at a small two day air show in a local town. It is free entry, free parking and is held every year at this time and includes vintage cars, tractors and motorbikes. I took my Leicasonic V-LUX 114.

Hi Mike, excuse my ignorance, but are you saying all of your pic's from the Mk4 & Mk5 are snapped on jpeg? If so I'm surprised at the very high quality you get from your presentations. I've never ever shot jpeg files not even on my iPhone, so I really must commend you on the quality of your pic's.

Hi George. Just on jpeg for the Mk5 as the version of Adobe Camera RAW which comes with Photoshop Elements has not been updated yet. Cheers

Unfortunately not - sold 'old faithful' on eBay a couple of weeks ago. I've been shooting bees and butterflies etc which are coming out nicely but the back focussing only becomes apparent when the focus distance is a bit longer (eg 7 meters for the test shot above) so I thought all was well :rolleyes:

As usual your shots on Flikr are excellent and the MK5 is certainly great

Cheers - it's off to AJ Johnstone tomorrow morning (funnily enough that's where my A6700 went for the exactly same issue :rolleyes:). I don't think it's going to be quick though and they may not be able to fix it at all so I might buy back a Mk4 to keep me going:headbang::D

If it is a known issue you may get it back quicker then you think Mike, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I'd be demanding a refund as it's clearly not of merchantable quality. This is a design fault so don't see how AJ Johnstone can fix it ?

Well it’s a fault for sure I’m not sure about a design fault as the issue doesn’t seem to affect all of them. I was outwith the return period so a warranty claim seemed to be my only option- if they can’t fix it then it’s a whole new ball game of course. Cheers

I’ve seen that, TBH to me the chart doesn’t look that bad, maybe a tad back focused but I’m sure you know in the old days the DOF on DSLR’s should be 1/3rd front and 2/3rd back in focus. I had a quick look on your Flickr, the M5 photos are top draw, before looking at the FB furore did you notice an IQ difference between the M4 & M5? I intend to upgrade to a M5 from my M4 soon but now have slightly been put off. Good luck with your fixed M5.

Hi Ronin. Well on Fb there are some very knowledgable togs bickering about this (one bunch convinced there is an issue, the other bunch saying it's user error) but I'm pretty convinced there is an issue with my camera (again according to others who have worked it out there should be a 50/50 split for this lens and sensor). The issue doesn't manifest on close up shots so ignore them - you need something from around 7 meters to show it up on the test chart anyway. I've tried a few bird shots which I just know my Mk4 would have nailed and they are definitely not as sharp as they should be with my Mk5 so I would struggle to recommend the upgrade right now I'm afraid. I'm sure it'll be fixed in due time and the people who have got a good one are loving it and getting great results but maybe just wait a bit? Cheers

Mike, if you’re series about getting hold another M4 get in touch. I use the M4 as a secondary camera for holidays abroad etc so it’s no big deal not having a RX10 for a while.
