Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with their filter? I have cleaned mine with some cleaner from scrive"s opticians (they say its ok for resin filters) but now when i take a shot the grass seems to be a brown colour  Can anyone help or is it the dustbin now :sulk:

I know its under exposed but this a result i got from Castlerigg.

Cleaner should be fine. All the extreme ND filters have some kind of slight colour cast at least. You need to sort that out either with a custom white balance or in post production.

It also looks like you have a light leak there, from around the lens or possibly through the viewfinder. The filter must be sealed at the front (I thought the HiTech had a foam gasket for that?) and you must use the eyepiece cover provided with the camera during the exposure.

Thanks Richard. I never had a problem with the filter before, just now they all look brown. I have just received the new 10 stopper from Hitech with the new gasket so will try it out tomorrow or Monday if the weather improves as i thought this one is for the bin. Would the light leakage cause the grass to go brown as the other colours are ok?

Light leaks cause all kind of problems. Were you on auto white balance? That would mess it up.

These filters are not hard to use, once you know the tricks (lots of threads on here) but you need to know them. Optical cleaner does no harm, certainly won't change the colour.

Edit: the original Hitech filter is notorious for strong colour casts. New one (with gasket) is said to be much better, but still has a slight cast - bluish I think. There's a thread on here somewhere showing comparison images. These filters also seem to vary a bit batch to batch, but a custom white balance, or shooting Raw and careful adjustment in post processing gets them pretty good :)
