Holder mounted Circular Polariser

Hi,

I have just got a lens mounted filter holder and a few filters including a circular polariser.
Reading up on CPLs I see that they are different to linear polarisers because they have an [additional quarter-wave plate or scrambler behind the (still linear) polarizing foil].
My question is, which way round in the holder does the CPL need to be.
It is quite hard to explain so here goes;
my CPL is a KOOD one and on one side of the black plastic ring it has PLC stamped on it, does this side need to face or face away from the lens or does it not matter.

Cheers..,

I have tried the CPL facing both ways and seem to get more of a slight blue looking cast with the logo facing away from the lens, although this could just be me.

Some more questions I have are;

Can I leave my screw-on skylight filter on the end of my lens and attach the holder to that or is it best not to use a skylight when using a CPL?

I can only seem to get my CPL on the outermost slot of my holder as it is very tight and there is no give in the holder near to it's mounting face, should the CPL be in the slot closest to the lens and then other filters to be slotted in the outer slots?

In relation to the above question, I have already broken 1 tooth from the CPL, is this normal?

Cheers..,

If the CPL is the wrong way around, I doubt you will get as big as an effect as being the correct way around, as the scrambler should of course negate the effect of the polarized light.

Yeah thanks, I was wondering if anyone on here uses a Kood CPL and could let me know which way round etc that they use theirs, I'm thinking at the mo that the logo outward is looking best.

Cheers..,

Hold it up to an LCD screen at rotate it, you should blacken out the screen one way round, that is the correct orientation.

Hi, thanks for replying.

I have done the mirror test and with the logo side facing the mirror the reflection is black.
I have just held it in front of my LCD monitor and if I rotate it with the logo side facing me it goes black.

Now I'm getting confused, does this mean that the logo side should face out away from the lens or the other way round?

Cheers..,

Mine only fits in the holder one way around. ISTR that one side is flush and that the filter sticks out a bit on the other. Rubbish description I know. Will check when I get home

So long as the same doesn't happen when you hold it the other way around (or at least, not to the same extent), then it would suggest that the logo side should face the sensor.

I did check with my screw on CPL before posting and mine only blacks out an LCD screen one way and that's when it is screwed onto the lens.

Right here goes *Tail Between Legs* :bonk:, guys I am an idiot :nuts:, I have just seen a wider slot in my holder just the correct thickness for the CPL and it only allows the CPL to fit one way round, with the flush side that has the logo facing the lens. :whistling:

Thanks to all that have helped, I am now off to kick myself.

Cheers.., :D
