Hi

Does anyone know of companies that offer gear insurance for holiday's? Going to Peru/Bolivia for 3 weeks and would like to take my gear but need insurance. Would like to hear anyone's experiences.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

have you considered talking to your home contents insurers. Obviously they don't provide the specialist photographic services required by professionals (such as emergency equipment rental etc) but they may be happy to insure your camera equipment while you are away.

I talked to my insurers and they were cheaper than the specialist insurance and were happy to cover me away from home, even abroad. They did require me to list all items over a certain value (can't remember what that value was). They were also excellent when I had my camera bag stolen in Barcelona and paid out my claim in full very quickly.

Just a thought and I'm sure someone will be along soon to explain the advantages specialist insurance might give you!

My gear is covered with Aaduki for the year, which I have confirmed with them includes a 2 week trip to Central America.

I've got cover with Photoguard and I haven't chose the international cover as I'm not going to need it, but it has an option for international travel cover. Reasonable rates too for a full years cover.

I could maybe insure for a year but work pays for any damage to my gear so not particularly needed.. My step mother says she could put it on her house insurance maybe would that work?

If that's where you live, it probably would.
