I'm going to Florida for 2 weeks, most of it will be spent in Orlando but i've been allowed a couple of days off

Problem is I can't make my mind up which body to take

I doubt i'll be photographing anything too fast though I am hoping to do a bit of wildlife with the 300mm f/2.8 and a 2x TC

I'm hoping to do some sunsets as well.

Problem is I only have 1 battery for the S5, they're the same size, voltage and connections as the EN-EL3e but they don't work, I have 2 for the D300

Everything says take the S5, which would you take.

don't suggest both as my 6kg limit hand luggage bag is already at 10kg :D

300 bud.

if you're really not going to be doing anything that you need speed for i'd say the s5 as florida is going to be quite bright i imagine, however if you might be out and about on a night then the d300 is great

cover postage and if you're not away on the dates i'll need the camera i'll send across my s5 battery for you to borrow if you want?

The fuji is cheaper should it got broken. The fuji is brilliant in good light, like the D200. You probably wont benefit from the high ISO whilst in florida and the extra pixels are unlikely to make much difference..... Just my 2 peneth....

I'm going on friday so probably a bit short notice for the battery, thanks for the offer though, I'm swinging towards the D300 if only for the fact it does 400+ shots on one battery, i've never tested the s5 to see what the limit is but if it's the same as the D200 it probably won't make 1/2 that

decisions decisions, I wouldn't want to get there and think I wish.

Given the choice I'd take my S5 - you should be able to get a battery from a UK seller off ebay to you before Friday easily enough

S5 Pro without a doubt - shoot the D300 next to an S5 Pro, and 90% of the time you'll prefer the S5 Pro for an undefinable "niceness" I think.

The only reason I didn't want to take the S5 was the battery issue, i've taken FITP's advice and ordered another from ebay so i'll be taking the S5

Thanks for the advice :)

same voltage, shape, connections but when you put it in the S5 a fully charged battery just flashes as dead, must be a chip in it so you can't use the EN-EL3e in it

Thats a shame, I have 6 so I could have lent you 3 for the trip. Still the copy batteries are pretty cheap. Will the S5 take a nikon grip? If so what happens with 2 Nikon batteries in that?

It takes the MB-D200 grip but you have to put the fuji spec batteries in it

lol, batteries surely don't take that long to cross the country by post, it's not like they weigh loads, offers still there if you want :)

and it bloody annoys me that the batteries don't work, seriously they're the same bloody battery...*****.

I just thought with it being easter weekend before I come back you'd be using the camera, it was only £10 delivered to buy one so I thought it'd save you the bother.

I do appreciate the offers though both from you and Darren :)

400 shots from a D300 battery??! What are you doing??!

I get about 1500 shots from mine...

S5 pro would be my choice....it performance in bright light is outstanding and you can get aftermarket batteries of ebay or ebuyer for around £10 each...they work fine in my S5 Pro

I think you shoot sports? In burst mode you can do that easily, but in a casual day shoot, just 1 shot at a time, chimp and review, 400 is more reasonable. Less if you shoot raw + JPG.

S5 Pro battery life is about 200-220 in that scenario.
