Holiday pictures - how do you pose?

I was thinking that every holiday ive been on with the mrs, we've always just posed infront of landmarks and points of interest in a rather boring and dull way. Shoulder to shoulder in some ways.

How do you guys take your pictures when you're out and about? do you try quirky angles along with candids? Any examples would be great, as i am bored and need some inspiration!
 
Try pinching their bum just before the shutter button is pressed, nothing beats a 'WTF!' expression in amongst the 'same pose different background' holiday snaps :thumbs:

ok, so let me get this straight!

i get her to stand in front of the sydney opera house, pinch her bum, run back to where i can capture her and the opera house nicely, and take the picture?

knowing my mrs, by the time i take the picture, the wtf expression would change to the middle finger, a shoe heading towards the camera, probably some spit and her lips miming the words '****** off'

Use a compact in video mode to capture all those stages.

Backpacking with friends is much more fun.

Haha, an even better expresion to capture. A Gorilla Pod would open up these oppertunities for you ;)

Sorry! Back on topic. Personally, we take very few posed photos - neither of us likes being in the frame. If we DO do a shot, it's normally informal with a landscape behind us, probably with a drink in our hands. Don't like quirky angles or landmark poses although I have been known to send my wife ahead to add a sense of scale to some shots but they're not really portrait type shots, she's just in the pic for the scale.
 
I have a nightmare with this. When I travel just with the girlfriend, I never know how we can take shots of the two of us. Strangers don't focus the camera properly, a tripod is too time-consuming and there isn't always a handy little perch for the camera! As a result we have no photos of us together near these landmarks.
 
Usually it's a mini tripod (and now I've got a gorillapod) and lots of smiles. If I'm looking for more interesting I'll get the wife to pose and such.
 
close up groups with a few seagulls or a bit of beach etc
take the landscapes separate
they are two differing subjects
 
Who ruins their photos with people?! :eek::lol:

+1 for that. Although last year, over 3 weeks, I was unfortunately found in three of the photos

Sometimes my sister in law is known to be jumping, and performing a start kind of form in the shots. Adds a bit of action.
 
i toured a few countries earlier this year and found many oriental tourists (especially females) to pose in photos doing a V with their fingers. I found it incredibly peculiar!

Im gonna try the jumping thing, i hope i dont land on my mrs's toes
