Hi going on hols to madeira in July has anyone got any advice on kit I should take ,I'm into landscapes/seascapes . Is there any locations I could go and try ill have wife and kids so I can't see me going t
IOn the big hill climbs but if there is anywhere else would be much appreciated
Thanks

i did madiera and have 13 separate days of shooting
the main ones are of the lavadas and the mountains
but the fishing villages which can be reached by public transport from funchal are pretty picturesque
the far north west is a favourite place for good landscape-ing but you would need transport
or as we did took a coach tour via our holiday people for the day out with a good meal
it may seem obvious but the coasts are the only places its reasonably flat
everything else is strictly up. the hill sides are at nearly 45*

hope i have been of some help...

cheers
geof

Only docked at Funchal once on a cruise but said I would love to go back (never have, yet) Very picturesque & a macro fans heaven with all the beautiful plants & flowers.

Have a great time :)

Spend an hour by the airport fence with a telezoom! I think Thursdays are the best days for this (charter changeover day so busy with 757/A321s), although others here may know better.

My advise to anyone going on holiday to take seascapes is always the same...

Take a circular polariser! Absolutely worth it's weight in gold!

i have herd that circular polariser is no good with a 11-16 ? or is that in certain cases:shrug:

Was there 2 years ago, the cable cars are a must, as is the downhill slide in a basket. Stunning beautiful country, would love to go back sometime!

"Interesting" airfield.

Good advice. I've never been but Funchal is a pretty interesting airport with some very high winds. Pilots have to be specially trained to fly into there and quite a few airlines only allow very experienced captains to perform landings there.

A quick search on YouTube for Funchal airport will give an idea of what to expect if you peer over over the fence! It certainly is a good, fun place to fly into...

Channel 5 recently had a program "The 10 most extreme airports in the World" , Funchal was No.9 ! It's safer now they have lengthened it, but they could only do this by building the extension on stilts over the sea !

One day excursion could be to get the ferry to Porto Santo, then have a Jeep safari around this tiny island, strangely this has got a HUGE runway as, apparently, NATO lands bombers on it a couple of times a year.

The only reason I can think is that you may get some vignetting on such a wide angle lens. If you could get your hands on one try a Hoya pro1 cpl they're made thinner to prevent this. There will be other thin filters on the market but that's one that I have and know it to be thin.
