Yes
My sons PC has died, needs a new HDD and it's due for an upgrade anyway, so I wondered if it's possible to build a new Intel based unit and load it with OSX. He could do with a Mac for his full time music production course.

I could of course build it with WIndows 7 and the modify it for dual boot if necessary, but I don't think he'll se windows once he's got OSX.

Not without breaking Apples licence agreement..

spot on,

The other way to do it, is to buy the Mac parts separately and build it, after is all said and done, it's not really worth it, you'll be better off buying a Mac.

:)

You'd also have to be very careful on what parts you get - only a very limited selection of things like graphics cards and sound cards have drivers for OSX. By the time you've faffed with getting something compatible it would probably be easier and not much difference in price to buy new from Apple. And you have the piece of mind that it will work well, and will continue to be supported though every OS update for many years.

Depending on what he needs it for, a Mac Mini may be fine, or if you need a new monitor anyway then the iMac is better value.

In which case I'll update what he has and he can stick with Windows.....

Maybe a MacBook for his Birthday....

Even if you built it from official parts, Steve would probably come after you for daring to do something against his plan. He wants Apple fans to just buy a new Apple products frequently whenever the new model comes out. From what I've seen of my Apple friends, that's exactly what they do. Nice earner for Steve.
