My wife has a separate account on my macbook. I want her to view my pics and movies, how do I do this?

If I am on as her, I can click on my folder but movies, pics etc... folders all have that little no entry sign on. I have gone to the folder in my account and set it to shared but she still cant access it?

Check the settings in System Preferences > Sharing.

You can add folders you want to share while logged in as yourself by right clicking them and checking "Shared folder" or by just dragging them into that panel. Or while logged in as your wife using that panel with the + button (enter your own login name + password after clicking the lock).

To set permissions look at the Users panel at the right of that screen while the folder is highlighted. Wife: Read only or Wife: Read & write is what you want. I don't know what "Everyone" refers to but it doesn't seem to work for this purpose, just a specific user name or Users for all users.

If it's some specific subfolders you want to share then play around with it. I'm not sure if you need to share the parent folder or whatever.

Simon,

Locate the folder that you want to share.
Highlight it
[CMD] + (or right click and select "Get Info")

You will now see a new window which is the folder information window.

At the bottom of this window is "Sharing & Permissions"
Click on the tiny arrow to the left of "Sharing & Permissions" so that it points downwards.

You will now see a list of names <You>, Staff & Everyone......

Click the padlock to the bottom right and enter an admin user and password

Click on the "+" to the bottom left and select the other user from the list then change "privilege" to "Read & Write". Then click the down arrow in the box to the left of the "+-" box which has a cog in it and change this to "Apply to enclosed items"

This should change the privileges of that folder so that either of you can access it. Alternatively and less problematic is to create a folder in the root directory called SHARE and both of you stick everything in there although you might need to change the privileges of that the "EVERYONE" has "Read & Write"
