As the title states, I am trying to find out when a specific lens, which I have recently acquired, was manufactured. It's a Nikon fit.

Any links to such a database would be very much appreciated.

Your best and most accurate bet would be to contact the lens manufacturer with the serial number and they'll should be able to tell you to the day pretty much.

AFAIK there is no direct correlation between serial and date of manufacturer per se:

This may help for Nikkors.

You can roughly figure it out within maybe a year...

Thank you for the link, that datasheet is excellent, only that it doesn't list the lens I am trying to find out its age (200-400VR).

The local dealer are the ones who supplied me the lens, but they can't give me even a rough estimate as to when it was manufactured. It's just a curiousity that I have.

Yes, thank you again, I just saw that under Super Zooms ... funny, as the one I've got is 306748! It's not in the range .. can I presume that the lens's datasheet isn't up to date ?

Its updated by users, so if you send Roland an e-mail he'll add your serial. I've had a lens that was past his end point as well.

It means its a very new lens though.

Great, I guess I'll do that

That's music to my ears  .. I was told the lens was specially ordered for another customer who failed to pick-it-up. I was worried in case it was a very old stock which they just wanted to dump on me :suspect: ... glad to hear that's not the case.

Now, as it's our weekend here, I guess I will unpack my gear and plan a trip out tomorrow morning to have some play time :woot:

Thanks again, Andy, you sure know how to put a smile on my face .. D700 and 200-400VR are a really nice match
