How do you display?

Yes
Not long back I got given an A4 printer. I have always been a fan of printing images out, there's nothing like a hard copy to look at rather than staring at a screen. I got a few of the simple black frames from Ikea and had some different mounts cut allowing me to print and frame 10x8 images. I've now bought a few of the next size up frames and had a few more mounts cut at 16x12 as it gives a nice width border. I'm planning on sending a batch of images to DSCL for printing.

What are your favourite sizes to print off and display at? 16x12 seems a nice size but it does take a fair bit off the sides.

Only if you restrict yourself to thinking the aspect ratio of the sensor when composing.

If I'm lazy I'll crop, process and print to suit the aperture of the frame, if I'm taking more time I'll size to fit the frame I want and get a mount cut to suit the image in the frame. I like 16:9 aspect ratio images, but it gets expensive getting custom frames made.

Maybe I should step back out a bit when shooting to give a little more room to play with.

I had a large print mounted in a custom frame and mount, cost a bloomin fortune. At present this is a simpler cheaper way to get pictures off the computer and on display in a reasonable quantity. I tend to think larger prints are much better on the eye and much more imposing.

Do people have a particular size they tend to go for, do you stick to the original image size or do you crop to suit the individual image?

I have a couple of the 40x60 frames so have printed for those with the standard mount. I've had a lot of things custom-framed which have ranged from inexpensive up - there was a framing work experience project in our local town a few years back & I got 4 custom frames for £60 :)

I'd run out of wall space too quickly if I kept on printing out my photos. I've got a nice size digital photo frame on the wall that doesn't take up too much room, and if I get bored with the pics I just replace them. Works out a lot cheaper too.
