How do you remove grain?

Yes
I have read some of the posts where they have stated they would rather have a sharp image with grain than poor but clear image.

What is the best way in photoshop cs4 to get rid of grain should I use the higher iso`s?

Would it be the despeckle tool or the remove noise tool?

Regards Chris

The higher the ISO you use, the more noise you get, the Remove Noise tool will reduce the noise but you will also lose detail.

Noise Ninja does a pretty good job of removing noise, but it's better if its not there in the first place.

If you stick to ISO800 or less, you should be fine.

Can you set auto ISO to a certain level on your camera? If so, do that.

as said if possible use lower ISO but its not always possible, I've seen me using ISO 2500 on plenty of occasions this year, reducing noice can help but quality can be lost

I can only select auto400/800 in programme mode, Ap and Sp I have to set manually which is a hassle it also defaults back too 100 every time I switch off.

The default back to 100 is a blessing. I went out only yesterday and shot about 20 pics at ISO 6400 because I hadn't changed the ISO back from the night before. Really annoying.

As for not having an auto in AV mode is a bit silly.

Thanks, I already new about grain with higher iso films back in my 35mm days but back then we didn`t have photoshop in fact we didn`t even have pc`s lol.

My max Fstop is 13.6 I think, so if I want a high depth of field and a highish shutter speed then it is inevitable I will have to up the iso.

I know the limitations of my camera as it is only a bridge and an oldish one at that, so I guess its a case of trying for the shot or forget it.

All my problems will be solved on saturday!!!!.......................................................................................

When I win the lottery:D

I agree it is silly but its all down to what dof I need, I start at 100 iso and work my way up keeping an eye on the shutter speed too.

^ Yup, same here if I turn auto off.

Try noise ninja.

Is noise ninja better than photoshop for removing grain?

it does a better job of keeping the detail as well as removing the noise, it is better than Photoshop, but if your picture still looks duff with photoshop's noise removal then i doubt noiseninja will make it all that much better.

but bare in mind that even moderate noise doesn't show in a normal size prints - i have been increasingly amazed at how much noise i can get away with in prints, the LCD is much more punishing.

these can be removed with the noise tool but this can tend to make the picture less sharp but this can be adjusted with corel photopaint I have found there are varying degrees of adjustment and I have got some good results using this software
