I went up on the moors to see the eclipse on Wednesday and quickly found out that my camera (Panasonic TZ99) would not take a picture through the welding lens I was using to view it.
My next thought was to take a pic of the scenery around before (at "full" light) then one at peak eclipse and put them together to show the difference. The problem is that the camera just automatically compensated for the lower light level* and I did not have time to work out how to make it manual as I have never needed to do that before.
What I have got is the exposure settings for the before and after pictures, and I wonder if any of the esteemed members of this forum could tell me how much less light that would indicate ?
18.31 = 1/400 sec - F3.3 - 80 ISO (a slightly different view TBH....)
18.54 = 1/160 sec - F3.9 - 80 ISO
19.10 = 1/80 sec - F3.7 - 200 ISO
* just like my eyes did, which is why, to people without "eclipse glasses" (or welding lenses ! ), it was a bit of a let down, at least it was to all those I spoke to.
A full eclipse is something quite different, we went to Cornwall in 1999 and that was impressive (albeit cloudy....).
