How To Check Lens Focus?

Hi guys, just want to know the best way to check a lens focus. I've just received my Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 through the post today. I've read plenty about what a good lens it is but I've also read quite a bit about it missing focus which has had me worrying a bit. Now I've taken a quick dozen or so picture with it and it seems ok to me but I'd like to do some proper tests to put my mind at ease.

I know I'm probably being a bit paranoid

Thanks for any help :)

Best test is to use it.

If you are happy with it then don't go looking for a fault.

I would take a few photos of something and then switch into live view and take some more. The live view looks at the picture itself and adjusts the focus to give a sharp image. If both sets of photos are the same then the lens is fine. If the live view ones are much better then there is an issue with the auto focus.

Now there's a problem, it won't focus at all in live mode. That's not a problem for me as I never use it but my wife only uses live mode, not that she uses it.

 It's not that I don't know how to use it, this lens doesn't work in live view on my camera. After havinga look about it's not an uncommon problem, Tamron can update the lens but as I never use live view I'm not that bothered :)

Lol, soz.
That's a bit of a bummer though, never heard of that before.

Like I say, it's not a problem to me really, for £200 I'm well pleased with the lens. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it the amount of reading I done. I think it's a problem with the newer cameras d3100/d7000 (not sure about Canon).
