How to clean up an old Scalextric track?

Yes
I've bought the grandkids a modern scalextric set for Xmas. The idea was to give them something fun to do while they visited. The new track slots together differently than the original stuff, which I have loads of. Now, they make a "half straight" which allows you to connect old and new together, which I have. My problem is the old track has been sitting in the garage for over 6 years and most of it has some rust on it. A good rub with wire wool gets most of it off, but it's painstaking work, does anyone know of a quicker way?

I have considered winding some wire wool over a drill bit and using that......

Wire brush on a drill auger/adapter?

NO! Don't use any kind of wire brush - especially electrically driven ones. All you'll do is make a mess of both the metal and the plastic.

Use Autosol Metal polish and a dry microfibre cloth to give them a good polish and to remove any rust. Once done, keep them clean afterwards by a regular wipe over with a very light oil.

Simple. (y)
