Ive taken pics with my camera 500D and if set on special setting my laptop wont open them as they are IMG. I can only open them on Zoombrowser that comes with the Canon box.

Is there an easy way to convert them from IMG to JPEG as right now my photos are pretty much useless.

Thanks for the help

In Digital Photo Professional which I assume also came with your camera you can open them and then use "convert and save" in the file menu to save them as jpgs.

I'm assuming .img is the name of the raw file, I don't have your particular Canon model.

You should also be able to go into the camera menu and select RAW and jpg or just jpg (at various sizes and qualities) as the format that is recorded on your flash card.

.IMG is the name for the Canon RAW file. I only started using RAW recently and I now shoot in RAW + Jpeg. That way, there is no fiddling to be done if the shot is right, but if you do need to tweak the image, you have more flexibility in RAW. YOu cannot view a .IMG in Windows Picture Viewer.

I use DPP that came with the camera to view and convert the image to Jpeg. The instructions on how to use it are on a disc that would have come with the camera, but I started with the online tutorial here http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=1228&fromTips=1

This is for version 3.2, but I don't think a great deal changes from one version to the next.

Canon keeps changing the name of its RAW files from camera to camera - I get CRW (the 300D) and CR2 (5Dmk1 and mk2)

Hold on! You've got me thinking now. Mine do show as .CR2, but I know I've seen .IMG somewhere. That's bugging me now.

Edit: Got it now. Have just looked at some I haven't converted yet. They get given the name IMG_1 onwards by the camera, but they have a .CR2 extension. Sorry for any confusion.

I downloaded something a wee while ago that lets Win Picture and Fax viewer show RAW files.

Do a wee bit of googling.

tried googling but found not much.Need to do more. Guess for the mo Ill aviod RAW settings or get me a really big MC for RAW and Jpeg :)

Isn't IMG the prefix before the number i.e. IMG_0001.JPG or IMG_0001.CR2?

I suspect that loading Zoom Browser has grabbed the file association for Jpg's....nothing more than that. Simply open the program that you want to use for viewing jpg's and set the associaition to that program.
