Beginner How to protect Lens - Filters or Not

I have a UV filter fitted most of the time especially when i'm down at the coast as sand & salt are both nasty scratchy things as for cleaning I use a blower, lens brush or a very soft cloth

For me less is best so I don't use filters in front of the lens, I do however always use the lens hood and take care when carrying my equipment.
