Yes
I looking to get the above but need some help.

Is there much differance between the Pro version over the Budget one, there is a differance of about £30 in price and would like to know if anyone has tried both and if there was any differance.

You can get Hoya's "other brand" - Kenko with the same Pro 1 Ultrawide band etc for significantly less. Those are unfortunately sold only in Asia and Japan so you'd have to get one through eBay. It will cost you roughly the same as Hoya budget one yet will be of a quality of Hoya's Pro one. Have a few of those of different sizes and have been using them for years. Mind you, a lot of eBay sellers from china sell ultra cheap Kenko's that are not really the same - packaged differently and use different naming/terminology from Hoya's - I can't say anything about those. I always got my filters from this eBay shop they exist for a few years and still sell them.

The Pro1-D series are multicoated and are of thinner glass. They are good quality filters and I wouldn't touch the cheaper green/purple series. I've a green series UV filter and its the worse filter I've used.

You don't have to get hoya ones, kenko are hoya rebranded. Kenko tend to be a tad cheaper. I have a Kenko Pro1-D Wideband CPL which is just as good as the Hoya Pro1-D CPL that I also have.

Just avoid Hoya "Green Series", junk but they seem to get snapped up just because of the Hoya name.

Consider Kenko, same brand.

I favour B&W, Heliopan or Marumi personally.

I don't think those cheaper ones work well(compared to pro1-d) on wide lenses too - the point supercnj made indirectly I think.

Since Marumi is getting quite popular recently could you perhaps comment on how it compares to Kenkos? The price range is roughly the same for both but I know nothing about Marumi...

I use the green series and I can't notice a difference with them on or off. I think you're all being slightly harsh towards them...

TBH without them side by side I'd hate to state too much regarding a comparision.

However in Japan Marumi is huge, its THE brand in most stores, and the DHG range are highly regarded. I've got 52mm and 77mm Marumi C-Pols and they are excellent - very slim, and the DHG coating is easy to clean (I find Hoya / Kenko filters a pig to clean).

For example the Marumi 52mm C-Pol is much much thinner than a 52mm Hoya blue series.

I doubt there is much in it optically - I like Marumi for the price / easy clean coating and super thin construction.

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

That's very interesting - I need to give Marumi a try then. I also find my Kenkos and Hoyas difficult to clean. The only way I managed to do it relatively satisfactory is with Eclipse fluid - but it still requires a few attempts to get it completely clean.

Does your Marumi thin CPL have a front thread for attaching another filter/lens cap?
