.......and going into modelling......... I have just been quoted £250 to hire a model with six months experience to fashion levels........ 3 hours work and she wants travel money.......

I think I will charge £100 for full nude  and no travel money....just jaffa cakes

I'll chuck in a fiver

Out of interest, how much would you expect to pay for an attractive young lady to come to a stranger's premises and flaunt herself for a photo shoot - exact requirements of scenarios and poses unknown - for 3 hours?

I recently paid £120 for a model with 6 years experience and she done art nude. That included her travel and she got free jaffa. Cakes.... I rarely pay more than £20 per hour for fashion shots....

In my area, £120 per full day for an experienced and good pro model is the norm, many will do it for far less.

I thought it would be a lot more than that.

I actually think some of the models are over pricing themselves these days. I was recently at a studio day where the model charged £350 for 4 hours up to tasteful nude and fashion....... she turned up smelling of cigarette smoke, stale garlic and alcohol and boasted about running around the streets of London until 8am before catching a taxi to the studio and leaving the poor studio owner to pick up the tab...... she then went on to declare that tasteful nude did not include showing nipple or any other private parts as she considered that to be Porn!!!! needless to say all concerned requested a refund from the studio....... I think that will be the first and last studio day at that studio......

......the hourly wage is £8 .......not one would accept the job for less than a tenner and one guy even wanted £15 per hour.........

Are people greedy or am I disillusioned......

Like I have said before....I pay a fair days pay for a fair days work...... I do not have nor do I intend to throw money at a bad investment

She sounded like a total nightmare TBH :(
Just wondering what, by her definition, was "tasteful nude" in that case.

She actually contacted me via Facebook saying that the studio was spreading negative feedback about her and would I please give her some positive feedback......err! No! I don't think so

I have to ask, and sorry if I'm being thick, but if you are paying for models what are you doing with the photos? So are you selling the photos of the model or ius it for your private collections? Over a hundred pounds seems a lot for the later.

This goes for both nude and portrait.

It's a mixture.... some go to editorials, some to portfolios and then some of the model time is paid for by other photographers looking studio time.......then sometimes you get a request from clothing company etc to organise something......just varies

Ahh I see. And I read again and see £20/ hr I actually think thats really good for nudes, was expecting a larger hour rate. Its no different than paying tickets plus's travel to photography bikes I suppose.

Hmm, if it's photos you're going to be making money out of, selling her image on, I'd expect that to be a higher rate than if you're just wanting practise. Much like how photographers usually charge more for commercial use.
Her body is her trade (that sounds wrong but I can't word it properly), she's got to make enough money to cover a healthy diet, likely a gym membership/other fitness classes if in good shape, possibly hair products, makeup, nail products, possibly manicures and pedicures, waxing. I doubt anyone wants a model with stringy hair, broken nails and hard skin on feet with hairy legs - right or wrong as you may consider the social conventions. Usually certain foundations are needed to look good with flash. For a fashion shoot, if it's one where she supplies the clothes (rather than set ones), those have to be bought.

I know people do shoot models who don't fit into standard beauty ideals, but I doubt it's as common.

I don't know about 6 months experience. I'm assuming like most professions, some people doing it for 6 months could be better than others with 10 years.
I'd also assume a higher price helps defer perverts just wanting to be alone with a half naked attractive woman.

I'd also expect to pay more if she's working in less pleasant conditions (mostly outdoors) than a studio etc.

Sorry to be "that person", but people constantly moan about photography being devalued. Maybe expecting the same price for a model as 20 years ago is devaluing them, too. Especially of course, if she's good.

I hear what you are saying but I pay between £100 and £200 per day for models...... A price which is acceptable for most experienced models........ Same way that I charge an acceptable price to my clients not an over inflated one. As for deferring the attention of perverts, a model should research the Photographer before making pricing decisions like that.

And I can find experienced wedding photographers who'll do it for £600 all in. They're just not as good at it as others, but they are experienced.

I would say it depends on the work and usage, as I said. Free market though, if nobody hires her she'll either drop her prices or change careers. If it's that easy to find them at that much cheaper, it's not a problem. :)

True.....The model that I will be using is actually 5 years professional and she will be charging me £100 plus lunch and lift from train station and back again....plus she will do art nude......if desired.....plus her references are top class and her work is even better :)
