Hi All,

Just thought I post this thread and see if I could tap up the thoughts of other photographers on this site.

I am new to DSLR Photography, I have recently been bitten by the bug after visiting a local exhibition. I have only used a compact camera before for taking holiday snaps.

After some good research I have purchased a Nikon D3000 with std kit 18-55mm VR lens. I have also been donated a Tripod and 5-1 Reflector.

I have spent a lot of time on this fantastic website read articles and posts on Exposure, Aperture, Depth of Focus, Composition etc, and I am beginning to understand it.....humm, hopefully.

But I now what to get out there snapping and here in lies the problem. Where they heck to I start, do I work on a particular technique and or pick a topic or project and just snap away. I want to get some photo's and submit them for comments and suggestions so I can learn how to improve but wow, I feel a little overwhelmed. LOL.

Any comments would be appreciated.

When i got my first camera I did not have a clue as to what sort of photography was going to appeal tpo me so i just went out with the camera and started to take pics.

I now find that I love birds photography alot. but saying that i like to do water splashes and close stuff too, then the mrs gets the odd snap taken so I am still no further forward but |i just love taking photo,s

Look in the comp section and get an idea and start there, enter it you just never know.

Good luck, just get out there

Have a look at the challenges forum, pick a challenge and take some image, submit an image then move on to take something else. Best way to learn is get out there and take photo's, play about with the settings (darkside of the dial TV, AV, M), but use the automodes to give you an idea of the rough settings to use for the conditions your taking the image in and play.
