I found a tablet I actually want.

mmm set to cost a Grand, and as said by Cnet Windows is not a touchscreen friendly OS, my wifes PC is Windows 7 Touchscreen and okay its a different scenario but its not a horrible touchscreen experience its just not needed and I think the things you would want from a touch and go device is more than covered with Android and iOS..

would be interested in seeing what the latest Ubuntu is like on it though :thinking: not about to spend a £999 to find out mind.
 
I wouldn't trust anything CNET said in general -personal opinion.

The Tablet is designed to be Windows 8 compatible/with Windows 8 in mind - for anyone who's been following 8's development - it's definitely touch friendly. I saw the link posted by someone currently working on 8

I like the idea of being able to dock it, and use it as a notebook with a full keyboard - as well as it supporting a full OS and not a tablet only one.
 
It certainly looks impressive if not a little expensive.
I'm waiting for the Toshiba AT200 and for Samsung to release the Galaxy 10.1 32GB Android once they get one over Apple in Germany (heres hoping)
 
I wouldn't touch a Windows 7 tablet right now. Wait for Windows 8. If it's as good as Windows Phone it'll be worth waiting for, and a good option against iOS and Android.
 
Jings Crivvens!!! at the price! as for battery life, with that spec I think you'd be lucky to get over 5 hours out of a charge, especially once windows gets settled in and starts running all it's usual crap in the background.
 
If I had the money for the 11 incher I would!
 
Weighs 2lbs and 5 hrs of battery life?

For me the ipad at 1.3lbs and 10hrs of battery life makes this look silly.

And yes I do know people with ipads who get that much from their batteries.

The Windows interface - if it worked well with an ssd and the same weight and battery life as an iPad would work for me though.

The ipad doesn't come close in spec, or OS. This tablet can work as a proper laptop replacement, and has full Windows on it - not some silly limited mobile OS.

Can your ipad run Photoshop CS5?

The point is - this tablet outclasses current tablets in most ways. I'm not intending to actually buy it (unless I suddenly get rich), but a tablet that has a full keyboard and dock - as well as a full version of Windows. Run it with Windows 8 - and you've got a killer piece of hardware.

I've currently got Windows 8 installing, so I'll probably post up another thread today or tomorrow giving a quick demonstration of that.

I must be really dumb, you compared it with the iPad in your original post? So it's not like I made the comparison, which IMO is a bit of an apples and oranges issue.

I've never thought I might like to edit pictures on an iPad, it's a great tool for what it is, but it's not a laptop or pc replacement, unless all I use my pc for is to surf the net.

Im no apple fanboy and I'd love a windows based tablet, I'd like to be able to easily link it into my home network for media sharing and do proper website updates, but not much else that the iPad doesn't do, I think the processing speed of that tablet is probably OTT for anything that a tablet needs to be able to do. And if all that processing power means that it takes minutes to boot and the battery life is carp, then that's a design failure IMO. The beauty of the tablet is instant on and portability. Portability comes with size, weight and time away from a charge, so the perfect tablet would be light and work for days without a charge, not be awesomely powerful and chained to a desk.

I was just talking about Tablets in general - the only comparison I was trying to make was that most of them are ipad copies, and this one is different.

Designed for Windows 8 - have you seen that OS boot? Beats anything apple have done - and that's for a full desktop from cold boot, takes seconds.

5 hours is hardly crap battery life - especially considering most people are generally never far away from a plug.

This tablet can be used as a laptop replacement - and also as a tablet. This is also the first version I've seen of this kind of tablet - we will be seeing more of them in the future, and they will be cheaper and have better battery life.

It's an i5 with 4GB ram - it can run it fine. I know this, because my own computer is an i5 with 4GB ram.
 
The hardware and spec might be nice, but there's no getting away from the fact that the OS isn't touch optimised.

Wait for Windows 8.....Metro is lovely.
