I have the money. Any reason not to buy the 24-70L?

As title, I now have the money saved. Do I go for this lens, and is it worth the investment (I am hopefully going 5D2 this year) for my 40D.

Just wanted to see if anyone had anything negative to say before I made the leap to my second piece of L glass lovelyness.

If you can afford it, I can not think of any reason why not to treat yourself!! Go for it!

It will really make you want the 5D (either one) very urgently. Consider that.

The only reason I can think is the rumour of the IS version supposedly on the way, but mine has been of my camera for about 20 minutes since I got it a month ago, its a great lens.

Yeah I heard the IS rumours. I mainly shoot live music and skateboarding so cannot see the advantage, esp on this length of lens.

Now when I upgrade the 70 200 from F4 to 2.8 it may be a different (and more expensive) story.

Mine is very sharp at 24mm, but slightly soft at 60-70mm

depends if you are sure that's the range you want !

since I got my 17-35 2.8-4 Sigma, it's not been off my 5D2 ! I love it !

I am in exactly the same position - currently have a 40D, will be getting a 5D MkII later this year (body only) and will be getting a 24-70 2.8 in the interim. My plan is that it will be the walk aroung lens for the 5D, but I can make use of it on the 40 in the meantime.

Still looking at prices to see where the best deal might be had, but I can feel an imminent purchase coming along when I find it.

the 24-70 is a great lens on a crop or full frame. If you've got the cash there's no reason not to go for it
