I need big help, Computer constantly needs repairing through XP Disk

Bassicly what happen`s, Is that I will put it on standby 95% of the time, but recently its just not working properly, I`ll haved to put the XP disk in because i need to repair it all the time, but it`ll load up and go past the post screen, then come to the sceen that says, "veryifying pool data" and sometimes it`ll ask me to ctrl alt n delete, And then sometimes once it gets past it it asks me to pick either windows xp pro sp2 or media addition, but it wont let me use the media addition, so anyways yeah a load of little bars at the bottom like tally chart lines will come up and it loads through them but it just takes to long about 5-10 mins through that and then 10 mins through the xp loading screen, and sometimes it dont even do that

In conclusion, Im thinking i need a new HD! But i dunno! :bang:

Can anyone help me?
 
Have you backed everything up? If so just reformat and reinstall XP.
 
New HD sounds pretty certain. do however inspect the MOBO for blown or swelling capacitors.

If you boot into the BIOS, is it detecting all the hardware properly?
When it is messing you arround, does pulling the IDE/SATA cables on all of the other drives (CD/DVD/Second drives) help things

If repairing windows does the trick everytime it most certainly is the HDD, however the mother board writes back data (ESCD) to the OS to tell it what drivers to load...

Persoanlly, if you want a definitive test, wang in a old hard drive, install windows, and test. If the machine sits pretty, buy a new big hard drive
 
well i need to go into the bios to change the start up seqence to strt from CD rom, and i aint sure richard, I keep the ide`s in the HD, And i know nothing has been nudged or out because its on a stand still on my desk and i dont bash it with anger etc lol, But you know what i might double check the IDE`s are in all the place they should be, but I personally think i need a new HD, It was ok before i got this disk off my cuzin. I mean i was thinking mayb its because its a media type comp but i doubt that, Any idea where i could buy a new 70GB? Or a decent one within a price range of £100?

o the23rdman, Yes i have a 2nd Hd in there which i keep all my stuff on incase i haved to format!
