I've been thinking about my photography and what potential Christmas present would do the most to advance me.

What I want toy wise is a 580exII or maybe a UWA

What would be more valuable to me is dropping the same money on a course, the one I shoulda done was the Bert Stefani one in Richmond that onform went to, whats going on out there thats kinda similar?

thinking location based lighting, portraiture, fashion they're the things that interest me and the place I want to end up working a few years down the line

hit me with what ya got while I go google

Oh I'm based in the southwest but London would be good to, well tbh I live up the hill from a train station so if its worth it I'll travel

I did a course there a couple of years ago - it was good and I'd recommend, but there are a couple of caveats, the main one is you sghoot very much in the tutors style and don't get chance to develop your own, so he does (or did) do most of the posing for what was a fairly big ish group

I do know an exceptional trainer in London so I sent you a PM, absolutely recommend some one to one. He has a long history in fashion photography and really does know his stuff.

the calumet seminars that are running in the London store at least don't really float my boat, the portrait one looks interesting but it seems to be the kind of talk I am organising for photosoc, I'm looking for more of a day of taking pictures and being told how to improve them in a small group or maybe one to one (think onelight) which is why I like the look of 'the trained eye' one day workshops....

I'd check the number of students on a trained eye course - the one I did was more like 16 to one

aaaah I missed the word there from your original post :D

all becomes clear

hmm that is a bit more worrying so defo worth a phone call or two if I decide to go down that route

i recently attended a course through calumet with an international fashion/glamour photographer Jon Gray. It was excellent for the money, 13 per class, lots of questions and answers with the photographer and model. He is an amazing photographer with an outstanding portfolio who is more than happy to share all of his knowledge and skill set with his pupils.

If you can get to London see if Martin Grahame-Dunn has any courses on, he is very good and explains things well.
