I am not asking for advice on which camera to get, I just never thought I would outgrow my 400D so quickly :(

Its a brilliant camera, Ive captured some corking shots with it, but I feel the ISO is letting me down, and Ive found myself looking for something else lately.

Ill prob go off the idea when I look at my bank balance, but dammit! I need something bigger and better. I wonder what my Secret Santa has bought me this year?

D3 or D700, high ISO is breathtaking.

Welcome, I will prepare a bed for you.

Gary.

hahaha! I did wonder! Thought Mr Betty might have something to say about that :p

Damn it Gary, I was onto a winnar there :D

I havent ruled out moving to the dark side yet, but it means I need to buy shedloads of new memory cards

Oh and Gary, I could barely afford the 400D, I dont think a D3 is on the cards :(:(

the 40d sounds perfect for you;)

Stay with Canon betty ill give you cokies :D and cake :D

But isnt the max ISO on a 40D 3200? Is that really enough?

I built my career on ISO1600. Hardly used 3200 as it was a bit much. Now that they have bodies with ISO25,600 I have to have it. You can definitely get by without it though.

The D300 I hear has very good ISO performance?

Gary.

Not as good as the D3 - but I'm happy snapping away with it at ISO1600 - with these long winter evenings, I'm trying 3200 and higher, and I'm really impressed with the results!

Thanks for those Gary, Ill have a nosey when I get home tonight :)

what iso does the 400d go up to???

Well the good news is, more and more cameras are going to be released with similar ISO performance. The bad news, it may take a while for the prices to be *amazing*. The D300 I hear has very good ISO performance?

Gary.

its fantastic yeah. even at ISO 6400

Are you even serious?

ISO performance at ISO3200 is pretty damn good!
Do NOT go to the Darkside, else you will just be a sheep like everyone else is ;)

ye betty 3200 is well high enough i have only ever used it once and that was at a football match with only 2 flood lights working :D

Yeah was just wondering why you'd need such high ISO

Remember our Wedding at Canon Hall !!!

There the D300 performed well enough at 3,200 - but I have to admit a D3 at 6,400 or higher would have been preferable

That said, it was the ONLY case of needing even 3,200 from all last year's Shoots - so I'll not be swapping anytime soon

Just wait until the D6 comes out with it's effective ISO 1million and switchable Infra Red option for perfect clarity in the dark - Gary & Pete will never sleep again :D

DD

Its crazy at what ISO you can shoot up to now! I think that 3200 would be MORE then enough, and the 40d handles this really well.

Betty hang on for a bit, I may well be selling my 40D for £1 at this rate  (but crying inside, lol).

Betty i know how you feel, i have put in loads of hours of over time and got my hands on a 50D on friday.
the high ISO is lovely and the fact that you dont have to go a full stop when changing is a nice benfit from the 400D

Hum - checking the POTY comp

1. Lady Pitstop - Canon 400D
