I have recently purchased a new hard drive for my macbook pro because i had ran out of space. When i purchased the mac i bought iLife and iWork for it, i also got the disk for re-installing OSX.

I have installed OSX however i have no iLife and thats annoying because i use iPhoto, iMovie and iWeb. How do i get it back because i cannot find it in any of my CD's that came with my mac. My friend who has done the same update as me (bigger hard drive) is having the same problem.

Thanks for reading, if you need more information please ask.

Andy

I have the original disks from my MBP when i got it but i cannot seem to find iLife anywhere on them.

I honestly don't know what discs came with mine.
I know it had Tiger installed and came with a Leopard disc which I ran pretty much instantly. So I don't know if the iLife package was bundled with the (Tiger) install discs or if I had a separate one.
I'd look for you, but my boxes are in the loft. I can look tomorrow and let you know what I have if that's any use?

I did a restore from my original disks (back to Leopard) then upgraded using the new Snow Leopard. I suspect that this is not what you want to do, but probably cheaper than buying it new from Apple.

So was iLife bundled onto the install discs? There is no separate one?

i think (unless i misunderstood your issue) that if you put your previous install disc in, you can run it and then choose just to install ilife rather that re-installing a prev OSX. I'm not 100% sure, but worth a go, and tbh i'm not 100% sure i've understood your problem or what discs you actually have.

In a similar vein - how do Apple know if you were to use someone elses disk? If I remember correctly, there is no serial number or activation so I guess it could be as simple as borrowing the install DVDs form someone (with a similar model?). Sorry, i don't have a MBP.

I guess iLife 10 will be on its way at some point in the near future.

I have now installed leopard and when my snow leopard disks arrive i will upgrade to snow.
At the moment i cannot find iLife, I have the OSX install disk and i have an iWork Disk. Am i missing a disk, if so i will have a look through my software collection to see if i can find something.

Thanks for information so far. Friend is reading this thread as well so helping 2 people at once.

Yes, without spending £79 one something i purchased with my mac.

iLife is on your original installation disc. When you installed it the options needed to be set to install it. If you stick it in now and click on optional installs you should be able to install it.

The MBP comes with two restore discs, one is the OS and the other is the additional software disc. If you want iLife back on your MBP then you need to do a restore using both these discs. If you then have a later version OS to install then do so and this will just update your MBP keeping iLife etc installed.
Might take about 2 hours in all to do but it if you want iLife then needs must.

Thanks everyone for you help, it seems that i have been missing a disk all along. It appears i was missing an Application Install DVD which i have now acquired from someone from my school/6th form. Thanks everyone for your help. No idea how i managed to lose the disk but i now have iLife.
