Has anyone had any experiance of repairing JPEGs?

I had all my images backed up to an external network drive, I've just come to copy them back on my new PC and I'd say 50% of them are corrupt.

I get the following message:

"Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged"

I know I should have multiple backups and I should practice what I preach, but I messed up!

Has anyone got any ideas?!

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Have you tried simply using Windows Explorer to copy the files from the backup drive to another drive or opening them in an editor program - Lightroom/Elements/CS5/etc?

Just because Windows photo viewer doesn't like them doesn't mean they're corrupted.

One of the windows photo viewers cannot open large files and comes up with this message. Try opening it with another

I've tried different applications, still nothing,

I don't always shoot in RAW, so yes I do have some RAW backups but, not everything.

Have tried a load of applications to try and repair the files, but all of them failed :(

I know little BTW :) ... So is the original network location corrupt as well? ...you could try something like running SanDisk Rescue Pro on the Network location maybe.. I've used it on PC HDs which its not intended for but I found its can still recover loads. .. you'll need enough temporary space to match the network location Id guess.

You should also ask a mod to move this thread into the IT computers section...much more knowledgeable folk in their. ...just click the report post button triangle on the lower right, of your first post in this thread say.
