Im currently in the process of creating my own website and iv'e got a question. Im going to be selling my photos online and was wondering what the generic size is for the image that the customer downloads? I will be using Ecwid to manage the downloads and distribution via e-mail.

My site currently looks like this, still need to upload some more imagery and info but if anyone wants a look heres the link.

If anyone has any points i can improve on they will be gladly taken.

All the best

I would be careful about allowing decent sized downloads, nothing to stop someone printing multiple copies and selling them themselves, though I suspect it unlikely. It would depend on what size you want them to be able to print at, 200pixels per inch is reckoned to be the miniumum for decent quality with 300 being better. so for a 10x8 it would be 2000x1600 pixels.

Who is your market, what is their intended use?

Im currently spending quite alot of my time at our local Downhill track in the Forest of Dean, people have been asking about where they can get and buy the images from so ive set this website up. They can then buy a the photo and have it sent in a email to them, so they can print it ase they wish.

At the moment iv'e got the photos at 12x8 inch at 300dpi. I havent yet put these online for buying. Do i need to go any bigger or smaller?

Cheers
Dave

For £6 I'd say 800px on the longest side prepared for web. A 10x8 sized image at 300px would be about £30

Downloads are easier and less time consuming.
