Imagine, if you will, that you did something really stupid, perhaps while on a wedding you went to plug in your Quantum battery pack into your 580EXII and despite there being a key to stop you, you managed to ram the power lead in the flash at 180 degrees in the wrong orientation?
So lets pretend that the crackling noise is quite horrific and the heat build up has reached the point where when you take the batteries out, you can't hold them. Lets say that you now have a flash that will power up but the LCD is very faded and you can't change a thing and there is a smell in the back that resembles toasted silicon and solder.
So, if you were to be stupid enough to do such a thing, would you say that it is fried beyond all repair and to simply throw away this £300+ flash or would you know where to send it to let them have a look in the vain hope that they could repair it?
Obviously all this is hypothetical and in no way reflects on the stupidity of the photographer who would indeed be very pleased he had a spare...........
