Yes
can you tell me a good magazine i could get that will expalin things easily from the high street

A trip to your local library and a general book on photography will be of more benefit than the usual crop of magazines, which will be filled with camera, lens reviews and adverts :)

I'd also avoid magazines as primary source of learning. They tend to be aimed at gear heads rather than photographers. Don't get me wrong they're OK as a general interest read, and can give you some ideas, but they do get repetitive after 12 months or so.

A good starting book IMO would be Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Easy to read and understand. That said, probably the biggest learning resource these days is the web, and forums like these.

I learnt a lot by studying other photographer's work. Not so that I could go out and copy them, more to see what I liked and why I liked it. I seem to be developing a style of my own having seen what pleases me by others.

And yes, as others have said, magazines are very cyclical and they run out of things to say after 12/18 months so fill their pages with reviews etc. Get a book from the library, spend some time on Google, get out with your camera, find a photography buddy etc.
