Where would I insure my camera?

It's all worth about £2k when bought new... How much roughly would it cost to insure?

I need to look into this too. I cant see my house insurance being much use!

Look forward to the responses

Phone your home insurance company, tell them the cost etc of the gear, find out how much they'll charge you. When I was only shooting for pleasure, I had around 5k of kit on my home insurance, all declared to make sure it was covered, from memory they charged me an extra £3.21 a month, around £30 for the year.

Obviouslyy you don't get the added benefits of public liability etc with that, but if it's only for kit, that'll be fine :)

I added mine to my house insurance at renewel time (£1500 I think I put) and still managed to save £5 a month against my renewel price with a different insurer!! :D :D

For those of you with insurance on the house insurance, does that cover you away from the home? Theft, accidental damage, loss?

Mine covered accidental damage, loss & theft (although not from my car overnight). I also added it to my holiday insurance when I went abroad, just in case :)

What do you mean by public liability?

When I'm out shooting, I always get approached and I can imagine someone snatching it or just damaging it because they don't like what I'm doing. :shake:

The other night I was taking pics of a night club and a bouncer ran at me and grabbed my 70-200mm L viciously and yanked it to get the camera so he can have a look at what I'm doing... :shake:

I'm not so worried about self damage or it being stolen at home. Will my house insurance cover me if it gets stolen/damaged whilst I'm using it out and about?

I use my house insurance for £4k worth of gear for both home and away.

He needs reporting and deserves to have his license revoked and be charged with assault.

Most home insurance will cover 'new for old' theft or damaged away from home, providing not used professionally ie. to make money. If not change to one that does.

If you are using in a professional capacity you will need gear cover and more importantly public liability (mandatory anyway for pro's etc) just in case someone injures themselves say tripping over your kit.

Just renewed mine today - AXA insurance.
4K covered away and home - £37 with £50 excess.
