I am on the Isle of Wight for work later in the week, and will have a few hours free late afternoon/evening? Fancy doing some coastal sunset landscape stuff, any recommendations of somewhere decent for such shots on the West side of the island?

Thanks, any other suggestions?

the south to west coastline has a beach with prehistoric fossils...
we never got there but the walking is good and the flora interesting

the shanklin side is quite interesting as well..

Not a great deal to photograph on the West side except the usual suspects Simon, the Needles and its lighthouse, Compton if it has good surf, Freshwater Bay if it has good surf. That is unless you're going to use ND filters and get down with the shoreline or back off and grab some cloud movement.

There are some better spots to be had not too far away like Steephill cove or if you're into derelict architecture Chine Holiday camp which is, er, derelict. I'd have attached some pictures but I'm guessing that facility is disabled being my first post here.

If you get this in time and fancy a drive along the coast get in touch as I might be available.

If you get this late and are limited to the West Wight try the Causeway, the Warren & not forgetting a visit to Dimbola Lodge which was the home of celebrated Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron: http://www.dimbola.co.uk/

Good luck.

good post!!

Not been to IOW for quite a few years, and the coastline is for ever changing in some places but I took some sunset pictures across Blackgang Chine, very scenic and dramatic with the crumbling coastline. Large sections would disappear from one year to the next, dread to think what it looks like now 16 years later.
