if thats aimed at me thats not true, i love my ipod. i appriciate the engineering in the new air's (although theyre rediculously underspecd and over priced), the latest generation mac pros maxed out spec are awesome (again although overpriced).

i understand that for some the ipad has become a great business tool, however at a wild guess id suggest that 80% of owners only bought one for pub points.

Personally I won't be upgrading. More than happy with mine.

Let's not turn this not another apples vs whatever thread, would be good to just discuss the ipad2 and ios4.3

The feature I like the best is the ios4.3 personal access point. Am I right in thnking that will turn the iPhone into a wifi access point? I haven't read the details as am out and about at the moment.

FaceTime on the iPad is a bit of a gimmick for me, I use it on the iPhone, but not very often. Cameras on the iPad are a bit much, as who's going to hold one of those up to take a shot.

Faster processor and more memory always welcome, but not enough to make me upgrade.

well personally i found them both to be lamer than lame. the os and the feel made them obvious as to why they are half the price, they're half as good. But this is just my opinion, if they are deemed a better tool by the market then im sure they'll make up the ground on the ipad

Apple know how to create good looking, overpriced kit and they know how to pull in the general public.
However, God (Jobs) long ago decided it is a case of 'do it my way and my way only.
No flash support, come on, I agree that not everyone loves flash on websites but it's there and it isn't going away.

Apple plays well into the hands of the general public and that's fine.
What annoys me are clueless members of the public who can't think beyond Apple products because they do not understand advancements in technology in general.
These are the ones who tend to be the 'fan boys', I know plenty of people who were original Iphone owners but because they have a better understanding of technology, they have since moved on.
Jobs & Co certainly know how to play the marekting game, the Iphone 4 TV advert would have me shelling out my hard earned cash if I was clueless.

Apple Iphone 4, 800mhz processor.
Android phones hit 1000mhz before the Iphone 4 was released with bigger and better screens.
Developers are not tied to the Apple way of doing things.
Dual core CPU Android phones will be available very soon and Apple are releasing these when?

I like the idea of a tablet but I won't be buying an Ipad.
My ex girlfriend bought one, yes I liked playing with it, yes I can see the mass appeal to the general consumer market.
When it comes to bringing a technology to market I certainly can't fault Apple but overall, their products are not that not ground breaking when it comes to overall technical specifications.

Competition in any market is healthy, I wll happily debate Apple vs other market with people who understand technology but it's pointless when such a large section public is blind.

but what on earth makes you have that assumption? i dont use mine for business, surfing the web and educational apps for my kids are made so much better and more accessible in my front room than using my computer or phone- why isnt that the reason they have sold 15 million.

you're saying that 12 million people are dumb and just buying something for pub points, that makes absolutely no sense

Marketing, the Ipad TV advert had me in stitches.
Yes it's a handy tool in some business envoiroments but there is no way it can yet replace a good laptop.

this is the thng though, you're basing everything on hardware. This isnt what makes apple consumers buy the products - its the usability of the software and you have made no mention of any of this.

depends what you use it for. since getting my ipad in march my wife hasnt touched my imac or laptop, she exclusively uses our ipad. for her the ipad has completely replaced our laptop. everything she does is consumption of media, so the upad fits perfectly. I do 50 % consumption and 50% creation so imac and ipad 50 50 use. rarely use my laptop though

Usability of the software?
Ask Android users if they don't have decent, usable software.
Every time an iphone user says to me 'but my phone can do this' I show them my Android phone doing the same thing.
That arguement was fine in the early days of Android development but it is no longer valid.

I'm really not bothered which platform people opt into, after all it's a personal choice, however, I won't sit back and listen to apple fan boys (I'm not accusing you of being one) who don't really have a clue.
People who say 'I am happy with my Apple blah blah' then I have full respect but when they say 'My Apple blah blah can do blah blah', then that's a sure way to start me off :)

its personal choice though with software, android users say that but i've tried their software and i dont find it as usable, plenty of people feel the same and thats why they buy apple, others buy android.

This will always happen when a thread like this is started.
These threads only appear when Apple release something new.
Unless I am mistaken I've never seen one for an Android phone or when Samsung released the Galaxy Tab.

They do if you run the stock software, but if you reflash them, they're fine (I have an Advent Vega). Certainly faster than ipad1 (I've had it side by side). It doesn't have as nice a screen though...

What I'm surprised at is that no one has mentioned the content of the broadcast:

- 5 minutes on the sexier hardware
- 20+ minutes on the fab new apps that are really cool and only $5 each...

Apple are selling the content, not the hardware.

Yes but this isn't a world that average Apple users understand, again this is for people heavily into their technology.
Hence the reason I've not mentioned how many awesome developers there working on great custom ROMs for variious Android phones.

granted i cant see a use for ipads for me personally but that doesnt mean im not interested in the technology.
 
Rumours are rife that the iPad 3 is scheduled for October time. The iPad 2 is basically a bridge between 1 and 3 and 3 will have the serious upgrades. Interesting.

Seriously these arguments annoy me. Everyone said the ipad was a rubbish idea, then praise all the pc/android versions as better

Same with touch screen phones

Apple are doing something right as most of the alternatives are based on their exact design just different in terms of spec which as anyone who considers themselves tech savvy should know that it is nowhere near the be all and end all.
 
You can't knock Apple for being innovative, they kick started the touchscreen market for phones and tablets.
Microsoft have had years to develop their mobile OS / tablet OS / hardware and version mobile v7 isn't going to see them steal a massive share of the Apple and Android market imho.
Apple have become a massive house hold name since they released the ipod and even though I've never liked itunes, the ipods hardware was (I owned a 4th gen) and perhaps still is very good.
Putting aside my arguement about hardware, they've certainly stolen the limelight from MS and the likes of Nokia when it comes to mass consumption consumer products.

I don't doubt that Apple will continue to release innovative products and if it wasn't for Android, I would own an Iphone.
 
i just watched the ipad video on the apple site, 2 things i thought were funny.

that english dude has all of a sudden lost his stammer

they have stopped referring to the ipad like it's a person, last year they would always drop the "the" part of the ipad, and would just refer to it as iPad: "when you use iPad ....." etc

both of these things used to really annoy me!!!!!

The chances of that happening must be near 0%.

Apple are relatively predictable with release schedules for product lines. It's much more likely the iPad 3 will be out this time next year, and the iPhone 5 will be out in June/July this year (for example). Apple also seem to be in to the routine of a major refresh every 2 years, so the iPad 3 will be a big jump, whereas this iPad 2 is a small refresh on the original. Apple aren't that hard to predict, but wild rumours are more fun for people.

I've tried the other tablets (and other phones too) and they just cannot touch Apple for the functionality of the touch screen and how well it works. The iPad is so easy to use, and the screen just works. My wife has a Samsung phone and compared to my iPhone 3GS it's pants. Apple's touch screen technology is far superior to any of the other offerings I've had a chance to play with.

Also. I like the way the App Store works, you know that the apps are "safe" and you're not downloading a piece of software that's likely to damage your phone/tablet.

Saying all that, I don't see enough of a change to see me want to sddenly upgrade my iPad to the next version. It does what I need when I need it.

Had a look at the apple site dont think there is enough change at the moment to upgrade from 1st Gen yet...

It says the new 4.3 is compatible with 1st gen ipad...

One thing i hope works is imovie app in 4.3 on 1st gen, at the moment i can upload hd video from my camcorder to ipad but not edit easy...
Not sure if processing power of 1st gen will be enough to run the app ???
