Ok, I found a few quid that “her indoors” knows nowt about. :lol:

Should it be iPad, Samsung, Sony or what? :shrug:

I’m not gonna use it on 3G, so it will only be connected on WiFi as I don’t want to waste money on a contract that I would only benefit from occasionally.

What are the thoughts on price vs value vs usability?

Please give your thoughts. :shrug:

lol, so you say. I adore the iPad so far and I would go for it, so many aps etc.

I have been to Turkey, came back, became a grandmother again at the start of the week and working ... ohhh and having the odd night out :)

How is the new job?

Thanks Chris,

You had any experience of them? I've never had an iPhone as everything seems tied in to Apple, is this the same with the iPad?

Also been looking at the Motorola Xoom.

Tied how? yeah you have to use iTunes to sync content to it but that's as tied as it gets.
 
Have an recommend the Asus Transformer, typing this on it, wife had an ipad, ditched it for one of these

I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite i7 in the USA this year, only paid £540 for it compared to £999 in the UK :razz:

So not sure I fancy the transformer :shrug: I'll take a look at it though.
Gonna pop into Best Buy in Bristol to see what they have.

Gotta take into account the extended warranty price on all these tablets.

I've had the Xoom and it was really nice but I sold as I fancied the Transformer with the keyboard, although I'm having a bit of remorse now seeing the Xoom (Wifi) priced much less that the Transformer at around £300, might just pick another one up, nought much wrong with it.
 
I have been looking at tablets now for about 2 months and finally went for the Samsung Galaxay 10.1 tablet which I had a hell of a job to get hold of they have had the 16Gb in stock for some time but not the 32Gb which is the one I wanted, finally got it from John Lewis and..... guess what......I took it back 2 days later, firstly the kies software was slow, I'm sure its meant to be mainly for phones and not tablets, I got no where with the Samsung Help Desk, trying to import photos using the software was just one problem after another, one gallery kept over writing another and to see the recently downloaded gallery I had to turn the tablet off and then on again so it went back yesterday and I picked up an iPad 2 what a breeze so much more confidence in the tablet and the software it uses.
I also had the Sony S and Toshiba AT200 (coming out later this year) on my shortlist since they have usb, hdmi and SD slots but since you can now get wireless external hard drives ( Seagate 500GB at £180 and Kingston 32GB at £80 ) I'm happy to go for the iPad.
I think the Zoom, Asus Transformer, et al, are too heavy, so go and have a play first.
If you are in no hurry and can wait a little longer the iPad3 should be out in 2012 and I bet it has a better screen resolution and better connectivity for starters.
If you cant wait then go to the experts and get an iPad2 you will not be disappointed

yeah although I am currently looking at selling the iPad2 and moving to an Android Tablet the iPad2's do seem hard to beat at the minute..

defo go and have a feel and a play, I was all set to go and get a Transformer but came back with an iPad2 which IMO is vastly superior, I don't regret it I only wish I had enough of moolah to have both :(

No there isn't flash but to be honest I'm yet to find that a problem, YouTube and iplayer you can still access and most good designed websites have a non flash alternative.

Wouldn't say that's being tied to apple though. In all honesty flash is a horrible bit of software that should of been retired a long time ago.

Complete opposite went from iPad2 to a Transformer, its great how as consumers we get a great choice as everyones needs desires and requirements vary.

I went into Currys today, they had the Xoom but some prat had locked it & nobody in the shop could unlock it :razz:

The iPad 2 just keeps calling me & tbh its a beutiful machine. I would really like to play with the Xoom 32gb 3G before making my mind up.

Still feel like I'll end up with the iPad2 non 3G. I'm not bothered about massisve storage & as said above there is wireless storage which is now around.

I'm trying to let my head rule my heart on this one, as the iPad is by the far the 6' Blonde of the bunch :thumbs:
 
iPad easy.

Just spent the last week having a htc phone and compared to my iPhone its a pile of dog poo!! So clunky, worse battery life, nowhere near as nice to use. So if other tablets are like that stick with Apple.
 
I was dead set on getting the iPad 2 but having looked around I went with the Xoom due to the drop in price and the features such as sd card slot, hdmi etc.

I am really pleased with it and am glad I got it over the iPad. In terms of OS I actually prefer Android than iOS on the tablet (hated it it on my Samsung phone), i would say the iPad is nicer to hold though being thinner and lighter.

If I had enough wonga I'd go out and buy an iPad tomorrow and have both.

I had the Wifi only Xoom for a few days and its a nice but of kit but I was finding it too heavy to use as an ereader so took it back.
I've been swithering since as to what to get to replace it, the price drops on the Xoom are very tempting especially as having played with one in HMV I think it was the case I had on it annoying me rather than the actual weight of the tablet, would like the 3G one though.

Also really like the Transformer, had only seen the tablet itself and imagined the dock/keyboard would be very big but had a play with one in PC World last night and can't believe how compact the whole thing is, seems much smaller than the netbook I had, not totally sold on the bronzy colour but for the keyboard, extended battery, easy USB connectivity and two memory card slots it seems like you get a lot for your cash, especially with the lovely IPS screen, so I think I'll be ordering one of those!

I've not been getting on the web much as not got tinternet sorted in my digs. (carp landlord)

I've just bought a three payg dongle & seems ok for now.

But, think I'm leaning towards the Xoom or the iPad2

The price on the Xoom is good & it gets good reviews, and as I've said it's more for surfing than anything I really "need" as the mrs would say (if she knew) Shhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Tablets are great for showing your images to clients, family and friends.
If you are interested in the xoom or ipad then go and handle them first and have a good play
I'm no expert with either pc's, iphones or tablets but the Apple software and iTunes is easy to navigate and works like a dream

I have read that they reckon the price of the Xoom might drop again as the Xoom2 is due out very soon.
 
iPad 2, none of the other tablets I have tested (and I have checked most of them out as they have been released) displays images as nice or flicks through them as nice an iPad/iPad 2 imo and as a photographer using it as a digital album is one of my primary uses. I also think the form factor of the iPad is still the best by far and how it looks and feels in a clients hand is obviously also important.

I bought the original iPad WiFi only version and then when I realised just how much I used it I bought a 3G iPad 2 when they were released. My Mrs now uses the original iPad (a lot!) and it means we have 3 of them when we do the NEC wedding show (my business partner has one too) which is great because we use them all the time when meeting potential clients.

The whole "but the iPad doesn't do flash" argument is laughable tbh. Load a few flash based websites on a zoom, galaxy tab, playbook, or other tablet and you will soon find out the limitations of flash and why its not very well suited to any tablet.

Whenever I check out a new tablet that claims to do flash I load a few different flash based websites up and the results are always very varied. Navigation on many is a real problem due to their reliance on the "mouse over" function and browser crashes or even device crashes are frequent.
 
I'd probably wait a few weeks now before making a decision, Android 4.0 is due to be launched Oct/Nov so over the next 3-4 weeks I'd expect to see a lot more information about the next lot of Android tablets, although in saying that a lot of the rumours are that nothing hardware wise will actually be released until Q1 2012
 
I reckon we'll see some more price drops in the next month or so as they try to sell stock before the launch of new Android tablets in Q1, I've been very tempted just to pickup another Xoom at the current price and use that until I see a newer one I fancy, I really like the Asus Transformer but at around £420 its the same price it was on launch, I don't really fancy paying that for something thats likely to be replaced very soon.
Also quite keen on a Blackberry Playbook as I have a Blackberry phone but waiting to see what their OS upgrade/apps are going to be like at their Developers Conference in a couple of weeks.
I'd really like to rush out and get something but my head tells me to wait :(
