Lets wait and see how prices of iPads will go down as next week Apple will announce iPad 2 :)


and lets see how all of that will affect prices of all other tablets :)
 
I would assume that the original would be superseded rather than made cheaper.

I doubt if it will affect other tablets - there are several in the sub £300 that are already better (more functional) than the iPad and when Android 3.0 finally arrives there will be quite a few more.

my mistake..I meant second hand market...
but now as iPad2 will be announced, I think that other tablets will be cheaper...but if iPad2 will be uber expensive then it wont affect price of other tablets
 
That would explain why Orange are offering it from £99 then
 
Be much better off just getting s sim from tmobile and getting the ultd Internet for 6 months for £20.

As ever with Apple products. It's the best thing since sliced bread, but suddenly ceases to exist once the successor comes out that costs 1.5x more.
 
Not sure that there is going to be anything on the new one that will make me want to sell my ipad1. But there again I have not seen anything on the current competitors efforts that would add much functionality either.
 
I think that the Android devices have a much better spec, much like the phones etc.

The thing that let these great devices down is the software support.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S phone, it's a great phone. However the software support is pants. I use the custom 'Darky' ROM and it's makes the phone nice and fast, but that isn't made by Samsung!

Waiting for the proper samsung updates.... takes forever! if it actually happens.

Apple on the other hand will send regular updates and keep the older devices up to date (like the iphone 2G, 3G, 3GS etc...)

Last thing you want is a device that great to start with but never has a software update later down the line. Not everyone will want to install customer ROM's from XDA dev.

But if you buy the iPad outright, you're not tied into a lengthy contract and you can get a probably identical data sim for £10 pm on a rolling 30 day plan which you can stop and start as you please. I think I've used my iPad less than half a dozen times outside of a wifi network/hotspot so you could even save yourself another chunk by going for a wifi only iPad.

My post was also just expanding on the very blank/vague notion that you could get an iPad for only £99 rather than what is better value for money.

I had a conversation with an Apple hating mate (well he was arguing) about how the Galaxy tablet is much better and more functional because you can use it as a phone and it a also has a camera. Now, personally, I don't want/need a second mobile phone and whilst the idea of an all in one device is good, I certainly wouldn't retire my phone for something even the size of some of the smaller tablets.

I can see the benefit of having a front facing/webcam on it, but the form factor of a tablet doesn't really lend itself to taking photos and therefore necessitate a 5mp camera with flash.

All in my opinion of course! :)

I know what you are saying, but even £10 per month over 2 years puts an extra £200 on top of the £500 for the device.

The Orange deal is good.

Back on track, the new iPad will be more than the current one. Apple aren't going to just reduce the price.

From the BBC -

iPad 2 will go on sale in the US on 11 March, followed by 26 other countries, including the UK, on 25 March.

In the United States, pricing will remain the same as for the first iPad, between $499 (£305) and $826 (£505). Other countries are also expected to retain their original pricing models.

more functions does not equal better, i;ve tried 3 of the tablets on the market other than the ipad - they were all gash

thats very sweeping and uninformative joe, at least tell us why you thought that.. otherwise its nothing more useful than a troll post :)

at the end of the day 4 of the top 5 smartphones on the market are android (the other is a blackberry) so it cant be all that bad ;)

the screens looked poor, the size was too small, the usability of the way the apps i tried that were native to the os were poor. They all just felt like weak copycats of an ipad

oh and surely 80% of those android users are only buying them for pub points? :D

thats fair enough, youre used to OSX and/or iOS on the iphone so prefer the feel of the ipad. people that use HTC may perfer the other options :)

if its any concellation the native facebook app on my HTC was a bit rubbish but a free official facebook app loaded over the top 30 seconds later was much better :)

Is there really a tablet better than the ipad right now? Im not an ipad fan boy, I dont even have one but ive yet to see a screen thats as nice as the ipads. Some of the others are slow and clunky

It's the RFS file system that is pants, hence Gingerbread will be supporting EX4.

Personally I would say that the incubator is the next best thing to sliced bread wouldn't you?
Look how it's improved the survival rate of babies..

For what it's worth, here's my take on it.

If anything, I would be at the Apple hater end of the spectrum. In my business, everything is Windows based except for our marketing guys who insist on Macs, and that annoys me no end. Remember having a Mac technician in once who told me it was his mission to convert us to Macs. Told him to p*%s off and never called him back again.

Never had an iPod. Quite like my Samsung Galaxy phone.

My business partner decided he wanted an ipad, so the business bought two (for development purposes).

Bloody hell!! The thing is fantastic. Not really using it for much more than internet and some apps. But I just love it. It's size is perfect. Speed is fantastic. Would really like a bit more functionality that would really make it a laptop replacement. (Maybe it has it but I've just not checked it out properly).

TP is great on it. Downloading the Times and Sunday Times is great. Not so keen on reading books on it. Any way, it has become my favourite bit of technology.

Should say, for balance, that perhaps it's the tablet technology that I like and not necessarily just the iPad. Having said that, looked at other tablets when I bought the two iPads, in particular Samsungs, which I though was a toy or a ridiculously sized phone.

So there you go, Apple sceptic to iPad lover in a couple of months.

I remember when the department next door to us bought in equipment that was controlled by Macs, rather than the PCs the rest of the gear used. The guy who ran that section was forever extolling the virtues of their Macs and how everything was 'intuitively obvious'. Until one day when he came into our office. "Frank, we're having problems with one of our Macs. Can you come and look at it?" I took great delight in walking into their lab, staring at the machine then turning away, saying "Hmmm, isn't it intuitively obvious?" Then heading back to the office.

That was me when I bought one. I was convinced it was going be be another one of those things that sat on the desk for a few years before I gave it away. It must get 2 to 3 hours use a day, and there's no way I'd do a solo train journey without it for watching films.
 
This is probably too much information but it occurs to me,as I type this in bed, that my iPad gets more attention from me in the sack than the missus does!

I'm posting from my brand new iPad bought today. I decided to save some cash and get the iPad 1 at a lesser price rather than spend loads on an iPad 2. I only really want it for browsing and apps. I bought the 32gb one though for £399. I did consider the iPad 2 but it will be £510 form the 32gb. P.s. I love it :-)
 
I bought one as well, at the reduced price its a great bit of kit.
