I've just bought a Iphone 2G running V3 firmware, it was restored to factory condition by the previous owner ie locked and un-jailbroken.

I've just taken out an O2 12 month sim only contract but the phone won't accept the 02 sim

does it need to be unlocked/jailbroken to use a normal O2 sim :shrug:
 
Is it a new sim? It will only take an o2 3G sim card.
Also - how long ago did you register the sim from receiving it? It can take up to 24 hours to be accepted onto the o2 network after you have rang them to activate the sim.

Edit: and nupe it does not need to be jailbroken.

What message is displayed on screen?
 
it says different sim detected please connect to Itunes but it won't let me do anything while the sim is in the phone, as soon as I remove it i can connect itunes but all it wants to do is sell me stuff, I can't see anything about new sims

PS i've been using this sim in a HTC diamond all day without a problem
 
Before it will let you use it you have to connect it to itunes and register the handset.
You will need an itunes account and go through the whole activation process which basically links the sim to iphone.

Does 02 know this sim is installed on an iPhone. This may be where the problem is. Talk to 02 and see if they can help. Have always found them to have a good customer service
 
he restored it back to factory settings so it is locked
 
Tried to find instructions that take you through page by page but no luck. TBH just follow the on screen prompts from itunes.

Did you have any luck?
 
I had to get a special iPhone SIM for mine, even though it was an upgrade to my old contract, it was just a case of going into the shop and they swapped it over FOC.
 
got there eventually, shows you what a noob I am, I thought Itunes was something that was on the phone, I didn't realise I had to download it to my PC and connect using that, as soon as I did it registered the sim and it now works.
