hi all

been asked to do a christening in a couple of weeks for someone who is friends with my fiances sister (i do not know her) she is a single parent and so has very little money, when i was younger i was from a single parent family with 3 other sisters and know what its like to watch my mother have no money so in order that she can still have the photos i have offered to do it at cost price because i know what its like to be short of money, is it a silly idea to do this once in a while because i've been in similar situations?

cheers

There is nothing wrong with the occasional good deed.

Go for it. Not all rewards are financial and you are covering your costs. I would make the images as good as they could possibly be. Then the young lady will want to show them to friends and say "lawless did these for me." What goes around, comes around.

Great idea but make sure she knows its a good deed and not the normal price.

It's an excellent thing to do, and all credit to you!
Andy.

a very good thing to do and could have a positive effect for things in the future business (word of mouth etc)

Go for it! it's a nice thing to do and what goes round comes round!

I took a few free pictures of my neighbours kids a few months ago as she only had family snapshots and couldn't afford to pay for a photographer. I got some experience and nice shots for my portfolio and one of her friends has just booked me to take pictures for a 21st birthday party next month and possibly a 25th wedding anniversary in the new year.

I say go for it as well. Very nice gesture.
I photographed a mates wedding for him as he hadn't even thought about a tog. I did it for nowt and did him and his wife a cd with a good selection of pics on. They wanted to pay me but I told them it was my wedding gift to them.

have to say they were both chuffed to bits and seeing that made me happy.

One of my best friends asked me to do her wedding in 2010, took me about 5.5 nano-seconds to say no. She was a little confused until I explained you need nerves of steel and balls the size of bolivia (figuratively speaking) to consider shooting a wedding, let alone your best friends big expensive 'white wedding'!

As above. Do the good deed and do a special job for her. But when delivering the goods you might ask her not to mention the 'price' when showing off her photos to friends.

Think of it as a deposit in your karma bank :)

go for it, but if you are showing the pictures get a model release form filled out for every body there, you never know, don't forget you don't know them.

personally i dont believe in carma.. but you never know... everyone could do with banking some just in case!!..
