Is there a printer which....

Will let you print from the printer on it's own using it's memory card slots and use the highest quality settings???

My mum and dad have been using a Small Kodak Dye-Sub printer for the last 3 years along with their Kodak digital camera and getting the replacement cartridges for it is getting harder to find and also more expensive than when they first bought it. The printer itself is a great little compact unit, however being as only Kodak make the replacement cartridges for it and no third party alternatives exist the printer will soon be worthless once all supplies of paper/ink for it run out.

I have borrowed them my HP D7260 printer which features printing direct from memory cards that are inserted into a slot on the printer, it also features a large colour touch screen for previewing photo's before printing which makes for easy usage. However, one annoying aspect with this printer is that when using it for photo prints direct from memory cards and not via a PC is that you cannot seem to select the high quality print mode which results in grainy(more so lesser quality) photo prints than what you get from using a PC and printing out via a photo editing program and then selecting HIGH quality mode which produces great photo prints. Is this a common trait on all photo printers that have memory card slots on them that can be used for direct printing?

I use a CISS refillable cartridge kit with this printer and it works well with no problems whatsoever....skin tones are produced faithfully and vibrant colours to match. I like the idea of the touchscreen interface as it suits my mum and dad's usage perfectly.....they don't own a PC and to be frank neither of them would get on with using one(they can't even program dvd recorder to record let alone use a PC) so it would need to be simple in operation with minimal controls...something which the HP printer of mine has got in abundance. Handy features are passport sized photos and other such options....6x4" photo size is enough for them....something which my HP has got a seperate tray for making for easy printing between both A4 and smaller format papers.

Naturally I would just buy them another Dye-Sub type printer, however I'm drawn towards the inkjet route as ink is available most places and it's not likely to run out to the extent of being left with an unusable printer like what their current unit will be once they have printed off the last remaining photo's from the dye sub cartridge.

Any suggestions?

Mike.

Most manufacturers produce printers that will offer this function. A quick trawl around HP,Epson, and Canon web sites will give you a list.

If you can go for one that has separate ink carts, not a Black and a Colour cart. Works out cheaper in the long run but then you probably know that anyway!
