Is there any known issues with the Nikon D7000?

Hi all.
I'm looking to part exchange my Nikon D5100 with a Nikon D7000 and was just wanting to know if there is any known issues with the D7000 that I should consider before I make the transaction.

There was know issues with back focusing but I've never had any trouble, always been really pleased with mine.

Thanks for the link, I'd seen it previously but I didn't fancy reading through 81 pages. Then I thought, well, the chances are pretty good that I'll get one so I might as well start reading! I'm up to page 5, hahaha.

I'll keep an eye out for the back focusing issue though.

I think there is info in there on which serial numbers were affected but I don't think it was all cameras by any sense. Like all issues, they usual appear worse on the internet as even a small percentage of users complaining about it highlights the issue. Worth being prepared for it though.

Other than that its an excellent camera.
 
There were a small amount of some of the earlier models that seemed to have some focus issues!
There were also reports of oil on the sensor,but again in the early models!
I've had mine from the day they came out and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it,it is a lovely camera and especially at the price they are now!(y)
 
12 months ago I was in exactly the same position as you - upgrading from a D5100 to a D7000 and went through the same angst as you. In the end thought b******s I'm going to ignore all the Internet hype of back focus, oil on the sensor (and loads more) and join the happy bunch of hundreds of thousands of owners who have one and I did and I've not looked back.
It's a superb camera - go and get one and enjoy it.
 
Thanks for the reply guys. It's funny really, you do tend to read only about the bad points about things on the web. I'm also getting further into "D7000 Owners Thread" which is boosting the confidence even more. I've pretty much made my mind up now and I'll be looking for a decent part ex deal as soon as possible.
 
The D7000 is a great camera, I wouldn't worry about any of the issues as most cameras will have some possible faults.

I handled one in Wilkinsons Cameras today and liked the look and feel. I have a D80 & D90 at the moment and am thinking about a part ex.

I'm looking at the D7000 with 18-55 and 55-200 from hdew for £625. Yes they're grey imports, but warranty wouldn't be applicable anyway with most second hand models so at least having some kind of warranty is good and having a spanker is a great feeling.

I'm still umming and erring between the d7000 and d7100.

I've read bit about the colours of the d7000 being better than the newer model, the d7100 being sharper, the 7100 suffering some banding and noise being apparent even as low as iso400. No idea if they're cause for concern or just "under a microscope" stuff

But then the 7100 is newer, more focus points and other features which I think would be useful in the future

I'm still completely unsure which way to go...
 
Had mine for 3 months and very happy,there would appear to be possible problems with the 7100 and certain sigma lenses but i understand even these can be resolved

That's always a potential problem with 3rd party lenses(can't be guranteed future proof).
But normally sorted quite easily!

Slightly off topic but I borrowed a D7100 to use along side my D7000 when I shot a wedding in October. The D7100 has advantages, no doubt about it - however when shooting in RAW I found the speed of the buffer and the delay of getting the images up on the back of the camera drove me nuts. Its not what you would call lightning fast on the D7000 but its too slow for my liking on the D7100. I guess yu just need to ask yourself if the advantages of the D7100 are worth the extra money as the D7000 is undoubtedly a bargain at the current prices.

I had a D7000 when they first came out & although mine did suffer for a time with oil/spotting, (which was eventually sorted on later models) I'd thoroughly recommend one!
I sold mine for the D7100, but after issues with focussing, returned it & wished I'd kept the D7000 tbh.
 
I can't warrant the extra cash for the 7100 unfortunately. I'm also weary of noise as that is ultimately what I'm trying to get away from but can't afford a FF. The noise handling on the 7000 seems ok at the iso range I'd need to use.

thats where i bought mine last year only shot about 1500 shots with it and am pleased with it great images

Got my new D7000 Today, havnt had time to have a good look yet, flat out this time of year. [taxi driver]
Got a lot to learn yet as I am a complete amatuer.
Took a few quick shots and all seems ok,
One thing I noticed was when I tried the continuios shooting it only worked certain times, must have had somthing set wrong.
Will have a good look later on in the week.

What I found with my D5100 when I first got it was that shooting in RAW with a cheap class 4 SD card made my continuous shooting slow and troublesome. I bought a Sandisk Ultra and a Sandisk Extreme as a main and backup card (although kept shooting in RAW) and then I was able to get around 8 or 9 shots continuously, sometimes more depending on what I was shooting, before I hit any lag. I'm not sure if this would be a similar scenario with the D7000? I also added a battery grip too which seemed to help. Or it could be just me justifying buying a battery grip! Hahaha.
