Is this for REAL

It's a marketplace seller. You'll probably be asked to pay outside of Amazons payment system (losing any protection Amazon offer) and the item will never materialise.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself.

They'll do you a new Canon 1Ds MKIII for two grand, so I'd hazzard a guess at the answer to your question being NO :naughty:

staying well clear guys, just couldn't believe it, nearly booked appointment at opticians

As advertised on Police 5 .. OMG I can still remember that TV program

Might be missing the bargain of the decade here but I see the seller has no feedback. There is the Amazon A-Z guarantee though it excludes 'digital merchandise'. Not sure if that means digital cameras.

Dodgy:thumbsdown:

You pay Amazon and they pay the seller, so you have protection in case of non-delivery, condition etc.
From Amazon:-
A-to-z Safe Buying Guarantee Protection
Place your merchant order through the Amazon.co.uk Shopping Basket or 1-Click and your purchase is protected by the A-to-z Safe Buying Guarantee. Amazon.co.uk automatically transfers your payment to the merchant so you'll never need to pay a merchant directly. Our A-to-z Safe Buying Guarantee covers both the delivery of your item and its condition upon receipt...

BUT as is said if it's to good to be true...etc..etc

No, that's for downloads, ie software etc!

What happens is you will get an official looking e-mail, that looks every bit like an Amazon response, but it will have Western Union as a payment method.

It will have some cock and bull story about how there is a number to ring to release the funds once you have received the goods.

It is a scam stay clear.

Just noticed the Users Storefront is now closed

Well clear! Unfortunately some poor chap(ette) will fall for it I'm sure.

I queried an item earlier this year, D700 at a great price, got an e-mail response saying it was brand new etc, etc and let them know if I wanted it, and there was no need to place the order on the Amazon site, they would sort that out their end, then an official looking confirmation appeared, with a request for payment through Western Union. They also gave a phone number to ring when the goods arrived so the funds would be released, saying this was the most secure as I would not pay until I had received the item.

The format of the e-mail was identical to any you would see from Amazon, the seller had plenty of good feedback, thing was the seller was in the UK, the e-mails were coming from Italy (I checked their origin). They had hacked into the legitimate sellers market place account.

Needless to say I was wary enough to avoid getting stung.

The amount of available stock has dropped since I first saw it.
Either someone is getting a bargain, or a poor Christmas

I reported it, should get closed down pretty quickly, Amazon are usually on the ball with security issues / scams.

I wouldn't have known - because half the "clues" you have noticed I wouldn't know where to look for them even now you have told us!

Just another reason to avoid internet buying for big things - besides, there is an emotional attachment to buying a new camera. Do yourselves a favour and visit a really nice shop and meet someone who is as enthusiastic as yourself to buy it. Grays really excel in this department - they make it so NICE to part with your money.

You shop at Grays .... you must be loaded :D, seriously that would be one dangerous place for me to visit, would be great if there was a similar shop near to me, but there is not, so the internet is the only option really.

Simple rule never pay for anything from someone you do not know using Western Union.

I do admit to buying nearly everything off of the bay but when I buy anything big I always ask if I can collect and pay cash. If they back pedal so do I.

:agree:

great point Martyn, it is unfortunate that there are people out there willing to rip off others so easily and without remorse...

Slightly embarrassed to have to post this but, I saw a 500D on amazon for £334 and thought it was too good to miss out on and presumed Amazon would have me covered. I tried to purchase but it said my address was not eligible even though the seller was listed as in England. I therefore emailed the seller and he said he was having problems and if I sent my address he would get it sorted.
He has now replied with the official looking ''amazon'' email and his italian address is now at the bottom.
I realise I've been pretty dumb to send my address, but seeing as I haven't confirmed any transactions or sent bank details, I take it I'm still safe? :(

If you've not sent any money, then no harm done.
Is there a payment link on the email you recieved? If so, does it actually link to Amazon?

This one suggests payment via ''MoneyGram'', so no, not Amazon!

i had to chase for a refund from one....i eventually emailed amazon and the money hit my paypal by return..it beat the email advice

amazon...associated...beware and check the feedback...especially recent

Run away. Now. Don't look back.

Have done. Just contacted Amazon and sent all of the details I have for the seller. Although I'm sure she/he'll just use a different email address and continue his/her scams :nono:
