Issue with Lumix TZ8

Hi everyone, need some guidence on this one.

Three months ago, I bought a Lumix TZ8 from an independant seller. I was - and still am - happy with the image quality and impressed with what it can do.

Except for one thing . . .

There are now rather nasty looking scratches on the lens, which I think may have been caused by it's protective lens cap - the one that opens when the zoom lens are extended and closes shut when it is retracted and it does appear to be rubbing against the lens. As a result, every sunny shots taken with the camera are now covered with blemishes, white spots and excess lens flare.
If you ask me, that does seem to be a bit of a design fault and doesn't really come across as something that is fit for purpose. I want to stress that it isn't the seller's fault, but at the same time I am careful with my stuff.

Where do I stand on repairs or even a replacement? (I'd still like the Lumix as I'm impressed with what it can do). I still have the box it came in but am unable to find the reciept (but have a bank statement showing the payment made using a visa card).

So, is there anything I need to do or know before I end up feeling like a wally if I go ahead with taking any kind of action?

Even if I don't have a leg to stand on, perhaps this post might serve as a warning for those who are toying about with the idea of buying the TZ8.
Without me sounding like Mr Angry of Tonbridge Wells, it is a great little compact laden full of features - except for that protective cap issue! Has anyone in here had that trouble? Is it a known issue?

Any response to this thread would be most appreciated. :)

PS: If this post has a defamatory effect on Panasonic, then please delete it and I'll leave it at that.

Update: Have rang up Panasonic. Phone was answered straight away, explained problem, lady said "No problem, just stick the camera in a jiffy bag, along with a duplicate handwritten reciept from the shop you bought it from, include your home address and we'll ship you a replacement".

The whole phone call only took a couple of minutes.

Well that's a good response from Panasonic

I've only ever known one other fault with a Lumix camera na dI belive that was replaced straight away too.

It's always good to know that if you have a problem with something, the manufacturer is prepared to make every effort to rectify things for you without any hassle.

Another update: My beloved Lumix is now back home, all repaired and good as new. :)

A big  for Panasonic.

I'm looking to get a compact and have been looking at the TZ range (had a TZ6 years ago which was superb!) as well as others but will deff get a TZ now! Great service!!

Good, and sensible, response from Panasonic. I think the fault might have been a one off/chance thing. I did some research on the TZ range before my wife bought one, and never came across this.
