Its time to leave my trainers in the wardrobe

For a while, in my late 20s, I used to wear "shoe-trainers" - upgraded trainers that were smart enough to pass for casual shoes. I had a few bouncers question them but let me through.

I've gone back to trainers for casual wear, and shoes for "smart-casual" wear (and obviously shoes for smart or office wear). As above, I tend to wear more understated trainers.

Here's my thread on winter footwear for those who might be interested:

I think the general consensus is that most of us old farts still wear trainers.
I think it's a generation thing.
My mums generation wouldn't be seen dead in trainer's but those who were in their teens, 20s and 30s in 70s/80s do tend to wear them.
I see some blokes in my generation who dress as though they are older but I'll be wearing cargos and trainers until I die.
Just like those of us who were first generation home computer gamers who now play on consoles , we'll be gaming well into our 70s :D

I'm 51 and always wear trainers in the winter and flip flops in the summer. The only time I'll wear shoes are at weddings and funerals but that's about it. I suspect my 30 odd years of working in gardens and greenhouses might have something to do with it (I've never worked in an indoors environment).

You know it makes sense.

My eyes are bleeding!

I work in the biotech industry - if you're a scientist then you can wear faded tee shirts, old jeans with (authentic) holes, and of course trainers. If you're on the sales side then it's a smart shirt, pressed trousers and shiny shoes. :p I'm a bench scientist, but having run my own business and faced customers quite a bit over the years, I normally dress in between, sometimes trainers, occasionally smart shoes, or like today I'm in desert boots and tan trousers. I quite like wearing something better than trainers, provided it's comfy.

I think my upper limit for non-specialised shoes is about 50 quid, although it was worth forking over £100+ for some decent running shoes. I can't imagine spending £100+ on everyday shoes.

70 years of age, still in trainers and jeans and I was playing on my Atari 2600 console yesterday - Space Invaders & Demon Attack!

Fast approaching 64, Sketchers for me and walking boots when the weathers is bad
