So I decided I couldn't wait a week for iOS 5, and wanted to download everything early. I'd read in here that there are plenty of downloads available, so just google. This is was I did, and ended up downloading a copy of iTunes 10.5. This seemed to go ok, until I then opened it and it flashed up saying copy has expired...
So I just went and tried to download the older offiial version - that went ok, but won't install because there is a newer version on.., even though it doesn't work! So I'm stuck...no access to tunes, apps, movies - anything. Plus iPhone 4 & iPad 2 that are synched with this library, but are unable to sync at all. I'm in rather a mess...I thought time machine would work fine, bit for some reason it won't restore iTunes to how it was, be use it is an 'older' version...
Help would be much appreciated!!

mind you if it has upgraded the library it looks like you have to start from scratch with that too as it cant be downgraded.

edit maybe not, if you get teh "The file 'iTunes Library' cannot be read because created by a newer version of iTunes" error -

I had this problem when upgrading the iTunes software! the solution was to rename "library.itl" to library.old and then start iTunes.

Might lose some info when you do that like playcount and rating.

It won't let me uninstall iTunes - it has to be there - according to the message I get when I try uninstalling it anyway... Yeah, it was just the other day someone on here said there are plenty of downloads available off google for ios 5 and iTunes 10.5 etc.... :/

Beta expire when a new version comes out usually are you sure you have the latest beta?

Be warned though last I heard if you don't register your device on a developer account and install ios beta you will brick your device.

I've not actually installer anything on the iPhone - all I did was search for iOS 5, and the one I clicked on was to download a new iTunes beta first - which I did. So all that's happened is its buggered up iTunes - and all the backup and synching etc. It's all backed up thru time machine though...so when the official 10.5 comes out next week, that may solve it, d'you think?

any ideas to solve before next week, anyone? :P

incidentally the reason you had issues to begin with is the current beta is 10.7.x so 10.5 is way out of date :)

but if you didnt have any joy fixing this the full release of 10.5 should be out tomorrow

It sworking fine fortunately - but it says theres an update for iTunes available (I'm on 10.4.1) but then after whirring about for a bit searching for the update, says theres none available...odd..

I updated to 10.5 a couple of hours ago......it's alive, although iCloud seems to have drifted off
