hi

looks like santa is getting ipods for my two young daughters this christmas

will they each need an itunes account to use said digital audio devices or can they be used off my wifes itunes account

For music, you're permitted to sync an unlimited number of iPods, even with DRM-protected music.

Additional Information

iTunes DRM-protected music includes audio with a bit rate of 128 kbps and allows users to transfer songs and videos to up to five computers, burn seven copies of the same playlist to CD, and sync to an unlimited number of iPods.

FWIW, I don't believe Apple is selling any DRM protected music these days as they've moved it all to iTunes Plus DRM Free, with no controls on the number of devices where you may play purchased music, which probably makes it rather irrelevant anyhow.

For Apps, if Santa is bringing them iPod Touches.

APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES

(i) You may download and sync a Product for personal, noncommercial use on any device You own or control.

Which would, I think, cover your daughters' iPods.

If your daughters are under the age of 13, they're not permitted to have their own iTunes account anyway.

REQUIREMENTS FOR USE OF THE SERVICE

This Service is available for individuals aged 13 years or older. If you are 13 or older but under the age of 18, you should review this Agreement with your parent or guardian to make sure that you and your parent or guardian understand it.

For film rentals, the rules are slightly different - you can't share those betwee iPods.

(ix) Film Rentals

(a) Film rentals are viewable on only one device at a time. You must be connected to the Service when moving film rentals, and you may do so only between your computer and other compatible devices. Films rented using your Apple TV or iPad may not be moved. If you move a film to a compatible device and then use the Service to restore that device, or choose Settings > Reset > Erase all content and settings on that device, the film will be permanently deleted.
