Yes
I've never used a Mac, ever.

But after weeks of deliberating I've gone and done it.

A Shiny new 24" iMac is winging it's way to me as we speak. It was that or another PC and the Mac just seemed to have so much more going for it.

bread and water for a week or two now I think.

whats the advantage of a mac over a pc ?

I keep hearing people raving about them but why ?

First, congrats AB22 Easy Tiger on your purchase.
As a someone who has just bought a new MacBook (my first Mac), there are a lot of advantages as I see it.
First, the operating system is (in my opinion) superior to Windows. I dislike Vista with a passion and whilst XP is OK, its missing things like multiple desktops, which I find are a real boon on Linux and Macs.
Second, there is no need to run AV software (by all means contradict this if you want, but don't flame me). The reason I say this is that as MAC OS is based on unix, the only way to get a piece of software to run is to set it as executable. By default files aren't set this way.
Third, they just work - no messing about. For example, as soon as I had finished setting my macbook up, it had discovered and connected to both of my networked drives and it took seconds to get my networked printer running.
Fourth - the user interface is just brilliant (in my opinion)
Fifth - they are beautifully designed and (hopefully) made to last.
Finally, back to the Unix thing - if you're a bit geeky (like I can be from time to time), then it's great fun hacking around at the command line level.

I know quite a few people at work who have bought Macs and not one of them has regretted their decision.

Cheers

Mark

thanks for that

Hey, let us all know how you get on buddy!

Congrats, I am sure you will love it. I moved to Mac in October 2007, buying a 24 inch iMac, and have not regretted it for a minute.
If there are applications for Windows you really MUST run, then I wholeheartedly recommend VMWare Fusion, as like most things on Mac, it just works.

Oh and in the 18 months of owning the iMac, I have never had to reinstall the operating system or had the equivalent of a "blue screen of death" - brilliant !

"reason I say this is that as MAC OS is based on unix"...not quite, but I think we are ok here as this is not a techy thread.

MAcs give youa better user-experience, but beware, s/w may cost more, and many of your mantes will not be able to lend you theirs....so expect to buy all your software.
If you have already done so, then you will enjoy the MAC more than a PC.

I'm a bit picky about software licensing and always buy my own anyway so that won't change.

But I agree, I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it more.

I have had my iMac for a couple months now and i love it! Why...dunno really. Everything on screen looks the nuts and it's a very intuitive operating system. Everything just seems easier to use. It's also silent which is very important for me as i hate hearing the fans on computers.

Have phun with yours!

yet.

Third, they just work

someone shoot me.

and now for an unbiased, both sides using version..

go and try a mac, generally they work in 97% the same way as a PC the only major differences being the layout of the OS and a few different features. its a personal thing, if you like it more than windows then go for it.

it will also depend what existing software you have and whether you want to shell out for mac licences where applicable.

using and supporting macs for the last 3 years i can say with assurance that they can and do crash just as much as windows xp boxes. even our mac fanboy design studio manager says anyone who says macs dont crash is a liar.

in my honest opinion i dont dislike either platform, and i would never push anyone in one direction over the other as like i say its personal preference. just dont get sucked in by the fanboy "oh macs are great they can solve world peace" BS.
