Of a new laptop. My Mum bless her has given me a £1000 for me to spend on something on 'me'. Her choice of words! I have given this a huge amount of thought and have decided to upgrade my laptop.
I currently have a Sony VGNF221E which I think is about a 14" screen, this is quite difficult to view and you have to get screen angle just right. So I would like some suggestions on how to spend a grand!

Cheers,

Dunc

Consider visiting http://www.notebookreview.com, it's a website/community dedicated to laptops and they have a sticky you can use to help you tell them what you are looking for in a laptop, your usage pattern, etc.

It's not that people here might not be able to help, but it makes more sense to make use of a dedicated laptop community instead of one for photography.

Good luck :D

Does it have to be a laptop?

If so, then £1000 will buy you a good one, but if you went for a desktop you would get a very good machine for a lot less than £1000 and the balance could be spent on .... a lens, perhaps?

Have a look at pcspecialist, Novatech, Scan

You could get a decent 14" Screen Laptop and external screen for editing when at home, portable and practical.

I would be very tempted by a Mac, though probably an iMac over a laptop.

mmmm so much to consider. Kinda discounted the desktop as I prefer to do me editing around the family rather than disappearing into a room for hours on end.
Having a look around the websites, there is just so much out there and such a bewildering list of 'technical' stuff to compare!

Ta,

Happy 30th Dunc..... :lol::lol::lol::lol:

A grand from your mother? You lucky _____________ :lol:

If you're looking to replace it with something of similar size then I'd probably suggest the 13" Macbook Pro or a Sony S series. Both around the £1000 mark and pretty similar. :)

I'm a mac convert, but whatever, I would set xx amount from your budget for a semi decent external monitor and calibrator. I use a 13" macbook which is great for everything, but for photo editing I plug in a Dell 2209WA 22" monitor, and use this for photo editing and use the macbook screen for thumbnails.
