Well after numerous visits out with Stu(Cosmix) and getting fed up of missing shots due to not having the reach I've just bought my first L lens.

Jessops tbf were superb I explained I could get the lens cheaper online and although they didn't price match they knocked £100 of the price of the 100-400mm L IS USM...

Now to go play, I am a very, very happy bunny :D

 Luuuurvlie lens, you're gonna love it

The push / pull mechanism does take a little getting used to, but once you have it feels like the normal way to zoom :)

Looking forward to seeing your results. I'm still not convinced I've a sound copy of the same lens. I really must get out and take some test shots.

Did you get a filter for it as well?

I haven't as of yet but will be getting a Hoya HD (I think lol), I tend to be a bit spontaneous, was going to be sensible and get the 120-400, was told they didn't have one in stock but the 100-400 came in this morning!

So, me being typical me jumped in the car after negotiating the discount and picked it up...

Off to Wales in a sec so not going to get used to heavily until Wednesday...

The lens is lighter than I remember as well which is a bonus :D

Congratz Ryan. It's a great lens, and perfect for your zoo photography. I have a filter on mine mainly because the front of the lens is nearly always pressed up against some glass or wire fencing.

serious question - what kind of hood do you use? I am going to get a rubber one for my next zoo trip, though gawd knows when that will be atm, just haven't decided which lens to get it for. Which reminds me, must renew whipsnade membership too :bonk:

As I have said, you will enjoy it, as for the Filter, my advise, no need, the hood will protect the lens element at the zoo against the fence, if you must have one, get the best you can, after spending so much on the lens, don't put a cheep filter on, it's false econemy. If I do put one on it is a Hoya Pro-1 Digital UV Filter, it is very clear, to the point you cant see it :D

Thanks peeps & peepettes :D

I've been away for the weekend so not had a chance to use it yet! Bird Of Prey centre is planned for Wednesday which I always find challenging so should be interesting and the following day off will be to CWP where I should be able to get some real comparisons :D
